Loved the Food and Bedroom. The Hotel's Royal Bar was jumping during The Grand National. Good Atmosphere.

My husband and I live in a village not far from here and come in about once a month. Last night we had a superb bar meal, I had scallops wrapped in panchetta and he the venison pie.....both were outstanding. Well done.

My mother, sister, and I visited the Royal Hotel in December. We had just drinks in the bar one night which was very cosy and quite busy with what appeared to be guests of a Christmas function. They soon dispersed into a room next door. We decided to come back for lunch the next day. Unfortunately it wasn't such a good experience. It took a while to be served at our table and we had to wait 20 mins for 3 diet cokes (cans). It seemed as though staff were trying to serve in the bar area and also in the main restaurant and there did not seem to be much organisation. Food was ok, we shared mussels (which was a good sized portion) but some crusty bread would've been nice, we ordered a portion of 'frites' on the side as they don't come with them. Mum had an egg and cress sandwich which again was ok but nothing special, side salad would have been nice to see on plate. Also no finger bowl with mussels. The table next to us ordered the Cullen skink which said it came with crusty bread but this was missing. Overall, meal was ok, service was lacking unfortunately.

We stumbled across The Royal Hotel after having a look at all the restaurants in the area. It was pretty early on a Saturday night but the Royal Hotel seemed to be the only one with some life. We picked off the bar menu which was a lot cheaper than the restaurant and had a great choice. We had a starter and a main and it was delcious. I had the lasagne and my partner had one of the specials which was kidneys. The food came pretty quick - it got really busy in there and is not the ideal circumstances for a meal out but we prefer it like that to being really quiet. Get in early to get a seat!

Had dinner in the bar area of the Royal Hotel. Sitting next to the wood burning fire and eating from a great menu. Food was superb and great service.
