“Great locally sourced food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

We ate at this hotel last night and had a fabulous meal. The only thing which let it down was the service was really slow as they were really busy. I would have made a complaint as we waited a ridiculous amount of time for our food had it not been for the delightful staff who were run off their feet, but were still charming and apologetic. Ten out of ten to the staff.
We didn't have starters but had new season Perthshire Grouse on a wild mushroom risotto (£17.50) was to die for! If you've never tried Grouse, this is the time and the place to give it a whirl! We had pink roasted duck on a celeriac mash (16.50) which just melted in your mouth and
Hubby had a Sirloin steak (£21.50). The puddings were equally fab. Lemon cheesecake was light as a feather, sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and iced raspberry parfait were both very moreish. The puddings were £5.95 each.
The food really earned five stars but I took off a star for the slow service.
There is a small car park in front of the hotel or there is usually plenty parking on the street.
It is worth taking a taxi or a bus to Comrie if you are staying in Crieff and you don't have a car.
You won't be disappointed.

We had a great time here. Stayed in room number 1 with the four poster bed and what a stunning room this is. Loads of space , huge bed and just so comfortable. Only thing I can criticise is the shower pressure which really could have done with being much better.
We also had dinner here which was excellent and the service also very good. Breakfast great with lots of choice.
Comrie itself is a lovely place and we will,be returning to have a good look around.
A great stay.

Situated in a lovely town with great walks all around, this hotel is very good in terms of location and accommodation. I had a gorgeous room (with a four-poster bed) which was almost a suite. The hotel seems recently refurbished but has not lost its old-worlde character. The food is excellent also and we got a good deal on dinner, bed and breakfast for a small group.

My only negative comment would be about the staff, who did not seem to be trained to deal with the normal comings and goings of hotel life. Basics like appearance (long hair needs to be brushed and tidy) could also do with some attention in terms of the dining room service. But overall it is a very good choice in a wonderful part of Scotland.

If you want good food served with a smile in a characterful setting then look no further. Here for a friends birthday and we were not disappointed. One thing about this hotel is its consistency! Will be back.

Seeing Phil Spencer and 2 would be housebuyers chewing the cud over a potential purchase in Crieff whilst having a drink in the hotel library, reminded me that we had always intended to stay at the Royal. We ended a mini tour of Scotland there and it provided the perfect ending to a great holiday. For 70 pounds each per night B+B we had a wonderfully spacious 4 poster room with separate dressing area, sofa and chair. The bar was welcoming with good beers and wines, and some people dined there rather than in the more formal (though not over formal) restaurant where we ate. The food was spot on, the staff were well trained and helpful without being insincere or formal, and the period rooms and furniture make for a classy but welcoming hotel. Comrie is a busy little village with riverside walks and ideal for the Trossachs, Perth and Sttirling. Thanks to all the great staff and we will definitely be back.

I am a bit biased as I live in the village but I do travel all over the UK so feel that I have licence to review the food, beer and atmosphere. Although the basic menu doesn't change much it doesn't need to as everything on the menu is well cooked and presented. The stand out for me is the Royal Burger, against which most others should be judged. Never disappointing and very good value. It's a comfortable and friendly place to relax, it would be nice to have a real ale or two to choose from but what there is is well kept and served.

Just come back from a long weekend at the Royal Hotel. It was a first class experience. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and the rooms were fab. They arranged a fantastic day out for us Fly Fishing complete with a Gillie and all of the equipment. We will be back and soon. Thanks to all at the Royal.
