My wife and I were travling the NW area for a week and booked a 1-night stay at Alexander's. The pictures of the place on the website made it look a lot more attractive than it really was. There aren't many places to stay that are as close to Rainier Park, but for the price ($100+) we expected more. The staff were fairly friendly, and the food was good (if expensive). But the bedrooms were very small (not much larger than the really squishy queen bed) and the bathroom was tiny (you could easily have washed your hands in the sink in front of you, while sitting on the toilet). The hot tub was a joke, like something at a frat house. They do provide complimentary wine in the evenings, and the great room was comfortable (if a bit dingy). We met some very pleasant other couples who loved staying there often, so maybe it was just not for us. But overall, convenient to the park, but not a good value for the money.

Great place to stay while visiting Mount Rainer. Rooms were comfortable and the common areas were spacious and inviting. Beautiful grounds, including a spring fed pond. The dinners and breakfasts were very good.

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights at Alexander's over Valentine's Day weekend in 2004. What was expected to be a romantic getaway locale turned out to be just a mediocre pseudo-Victorian hotel right off the main road.

Low points:
The hotel was a bit more shabby than Victorian. The proprietors were brusque and somewhat discourteous. They never really made us feel welcome - whenever we approached them, they seemed to have a "don't bother me now" kind of attitude. The front desk person in particular always seemed stressed out and surly. We wondered if our age (mid-late 20s) had something to do with their apparent dislike, as we were by far one of the youngest people there (young couples take note!). When we were made to wait around an extra 40 minutes or so for our dinner reservation on Valentine's Day, there were no apologies - just a gruff explanation that they were "real busy" that night.

High points:
Use of snowshoes was included in price of night's stay. There is a nice (though not private) hot tub overlooking the trout pond out back. The hotel has good proximity to the park. The atmosphere is very sedate - Alexander's may be good for those looking for standard hotel fare, absolute quiet and not a lot of excitement or interaction with other guests. The 2-level Victorian suite we stayed in is sort of fun & cozy - though it does lack for privacy as it overlooks the road.

During cocktails at a bar in Ashford, when we told our bartender where were we staying, she rolled her eyes and said the local consensus was that Alexander's was overrated. We would like to try other places to stay near the park (Stormking, Jasmer's), but will not be going back to Alexander's.

Hello,
I just want to tell everyone that after staying at Alexanders monthly in the 1993 and 1994 I want to return. Out side of Hitcham Suffolk UK my next favorite place to stay is Alexanders in Ashford.
I want to come back and I will.
Thanks to all.
Tom
