“Family Birthday Party”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014 via mobile

We booked the Colin Lewis suite for a family birthday party on Saturday night. We had the use of the room, a private bar and excellent buffet. The level of service from all of the staff from receptionist to bar staff was excellent. A first class venue in wonderful surroundings. Highly recommend for any size event. Thanks again to Chris, Nicki, Luke and all the staff.

Nice hotel located by canal in small village. Very helpful and attentive staff. The restaurant is excellent, the Gourmet menu should not be missed. The only downside is the noise from the motorway, although not noticeable inside.

My wife booked for us for a celebratory meal and, at the last minute, we decided to stay the night too. The reception staff were excellent. The room was well furnished and spotless.
We had pre-dinner drinks in the bar and the ate in the Orangery. After much deliberation, we ultimately opted for the three course gourmet meal rather than the tasting menu. The quality of the meal was exceptional and the staff's attention to detail was faultless. An excellent wine list too.
A good night's sleep was followed by an excellent breakfast.
Thank you to Luke and his team
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a front facing room overlooking the pond

Beautiful place for a wedding, very well organized, food and staff were excellent, Majority of the rooms were faultless, however, one adult in party had a family room and was expected to sleep on camp bed with mattress topper but no mattress,[ at £175 per room,] Bar closed even for residents any drinks after were on room service basis, then the bill had added drinks on not had.Final bill again had items not had on it. SO watch the final invoice.Other issues not particularly pertaining to our party [ disrespectful/ rude 18yr old party throwing glasses from window above our room ] caused sleepless night [ Have slept lot better in travel lodge.] and is at present subject to complaint

I've stayed at the Moat House a number of times - the front of house staff are always very friendly and helpful. The rooms are well-appointed and always clean, with good quality toiletries and amenities one would expect from a 4* establishment.

The location is nice, but a tad remote if you aren't driving (their sister hotel, The Swan, is in Stafford town centre for something more central).

The food is very good in the bar (I've not tried the restaurant due to being on a budget!) with a wide-enough selection for a shorter stay (it does get trying after several weeks on end though). One downside is that sometimes it does seem to take a long time to get orders to the table, as well as with room service. On the rare occasion that something did go wrong (desert order wasn't put in), the staff made every effort to put the situation right, which can't be faulted at all (mistakes do happen, after all).

All in all, I'd thoroughly recommend the Moat House.

Purposely selected the hotel for an overnight stay on as I had heard from several people what a lovely place it was to stay and to eat. This was true. Beautiful building, lovely landscaped surroundings, pretty lake and adjacent to the canal. Our room was impressive - we oped for to an executive room. 6ft bed was so comfortable.....and the pillows for once for a hotel were perfect, no need to double up with the sofa cushions or fold one of them in half to get a reasonable night's sleep. Staff were very friendly and helpful....we'd forgotten to pack a toothbrush so the lady on reception kindly arranged for one to be taken to our room while were were having dinner in the bar. While she was there, she turned back the bed, washed the cups and replaced the milk we had used earlier. Not what we would have expected. We had been told that the restaurant meals were excellent but as we hadn't booked beforehand it was fully booked, so we ate in the bar. The bar meal was very well presented and of excellent quality. The bar itself was very interesting, lots of nooks and crannies and so old, really ancient with orginal beams. Seems the place has a history going back centuries. All fascinating stuff. Excellent breakfast served the next morning in the Orangery. A bit of a glitch with mine but upon commenting to the waiter, the dining room manager appeared apologising profusely. It really wasn't a problem just a bit of a disappointment and I am certain, just a one-off.. He dealt with my comments in a very professional manner and the matter was resolved.

All in all our overnight stay was excellent. Would love to have stayed a few days more but husband was quite unwell with a cold so we didn't ask to extend our stay on this occasion.

We would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone who wants accommodation in the area. We loved it and hope to stay again but next time, for longer!

I have recently stayed at the moat house and am a very happy customer! Excellent service! It made a lovely weekend away. When we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed and our bags were taken to our room for us, we then found that the room temperature was lovely and warm especially on a very cold day, which made it very cozy. We then had a lovely meal in the restaurant. A wedding was currently happening in the restaurant which we expected to make a lot of noise during the night but to our delight we could not here anything. I can not wait for my next visit to the moat house. Such a lovely place.
