Description: Named in honour of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, the last Viceroy of the British Indian Empire, Mountbatten The Viceroys Lounge is an upmarket Indian restaurant based in the pleasant town of Bishops Stortford. More upmarket than your average Indian restaurant, Mountbatten has an air of fine dining elegance more often experienced in European restaurants, the spacious dining room sleekly decorated in neutral tones and light wood, the tables dressed in pressed white linen. As you may well expect, the Mountbatten menu is nothing if not extensive, offering a wide range of Asian dishes, including a generous number of vegetarian options. In addition to a wide range of curries, both mild and spicy, youll find delicious Tandoori grills and less obvious specialties from the less mined regions of India, a real taste of Indian cookery with a gourmet restaurant touch. Need proof that this is probably Bishops Stortfords best restaurant? Celebrity chef Jamie Olivers parents are regular visitors.

Situated just outside Bishop's Stortford, this restaurant has its own, well lit car park and offers a large comfortable premises decorated in a modern fashion. The food is more subtle than the more traditional Indian cooking, and has a reasonable number of chef's specials some of which are unusual. Service is attentive - sometimes a little too much so - but very charming and friendly. There are two dining areas, if you want a quiet table, ask to be seated at the rear of the building. Offers special deals during the week from a more limited menu, these are excellent value.

Been to Mountbatten on Christmas eve, although the restaurant was very busy, the food and service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant in Bishop's Stortford as i had a fabulous night out with family and friends. Great food for every taste.

I am not from this area and came here when visiting friends on Boxing day - the reviews in general seem to be good so i'm not sure if it was just a one off as it was boxing day but nevertheless i would never come back. There seemed to be a lot of waiters not doing a lot and the restaurant was freezing cold (we were placed in the extension area but it was not at all busy) The poppadoms and chutney/coconut dips were lovely and plentiful. However when the mains came it was disappointing, everything was really cold, one of our party ordered a shashlik which usually comes on a sizzling pan but no this did not, even the rice was cold, i would have asked for it to be heated up but i had king prawn and they are not good once microwaved! The actual flavour of everything wasn't bad - although very mild i had a Rogan Josh and it had no heat at all. Overall not good and i wouldn't recommend it.

Mountbatten Viceroy continues to impress us; latest visit was today for lunch. The restaurant was busy, which is testament to the quality of food and ita local popularity.

We always order from the alacarte menu, rather than buffet. Our favourite today was the prawn jalfrezi. Naan bread and poppadums were excellent. Highly recommended.
