“Good for Business”

Had a colleague from Germany for dinner. Service was pretty attentive, overcooked his steak a little, but chose not to complain. Overall, pretty good, but a little pricey.

“Good stakes, but not special atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

The food was just good, maybe the preparation was lasting too long, we have been waiting almost one hour, but we have been 7 persons. The stakes are very good, however, the atmosphere is very oldfashioned, good, but, not really special. The prices are very high, too high!

“Expensive-classy, old style clubby interior.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

This is a very comfortable restaurant--the lighting, chairs, setting-- very nice. Food is pretty good to great- depending on what you order. The steaks were good-but slightly over cooked (asked for it medium rare), and not presented in an eye pleasing way. The service (my 4th visit in 6 mos.) was spotty . This last visit, we had to ask staff twice to take our food order and get the wine we ordered served etc., BUT the staff is friendly and focused on customer satisfaction. The wine list is excellent and the atmosphere is terrific-You can have a conversation with your table mates in comfort.

“Absolutely perfect!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

This was probably in my top 5 meals ever. We ordered Chateauxbriand For Two that came with silky mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. As we were sitting in a luxurious Victorian-era train car with limited aisle space our dinner was served to us individually instead of prepared table side. No worries! As promised the filet was spectacular Prime beef. What made the meal a standout was the accompanying sauces of bearnaise and Demi-glacé. The real topper was my special request for a horseradish sauce. MOST restaurants merely stir horseradish into sour cram and bam! that's what you get. Not here, oh no. Someone (garde manger?) actually whipped some heavy cream and folded in the horseradish. This is European old school and totally won me over.
The place was packed with locals and visitors. I would return to the Madison Hotel and this restaurant just for the dining/bar/wine scene alone. Such friendly staff, very sweet and accommodating.
Glad we didn't pick a national chain "factory" hotel and restaurant.
