We had not been to the White Horse for several years, when we remember it being hosted by a jolly and friendly large lady and a crew of rather attractive young girls behind the bar. There have been changes there since and we popped in for a drink and possibly a snack at lunchtime. There was no evidence of anyone serving behind the bar and only a two or three sole drinkers on our side of it. After I had perused the offerings and waited for a few minutes a door opened and a woman appeared from within, only for her to be accosted by one of the chaps sitting on the customer side of the bar - who it turned out was staff (the landlord??) and who had apparently, whilst I was standing there like a lemon, been studying some papers pertaining to a recent delivery which he obviously was not happy about. My interest to him as a potential customer had been obviously non-existent. They both continued to ignore my presence waiting at the bar and began discussing various points about their delivery. Exasperated, I signalled to my wife who was by now sitting expectantly at a table, she put her coat back on and we beat a hasty and embarrassed retreat to another more receptive and friendly hostelry in Cromer - not too hard to find.......................Question - why are more and more pubs closing on a regular basis? Answer - those that are professionally run by adequately skilled and equipped people are not!
