“Not quite what we expected, but not bad”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

I would have to say that overall our stay at Tuncan was ok. We didn't see a dog called Sheba the whole time we were there (just a dog that used to sit outside a hotel further down the street). We were neither bowled over by the hospitality but neither were we disappointed by it. It is a very clean, quiet, family run hotel that covers all your basic requirements. Ali and Turkan were there if you needed them but otherwise they kept themselves busy with the day to day running of the hotel. Having said that Ali made the fridge behind the bar available to us for my son's medication and there was never any problem in him going to the fridge as and when required. Ali was also helpful when my boyfriend needed medical treatment. We would love to be as enthusiastic about our stay in the same way some other people have been on here and its really hard to put our finger on whatever it was that wasn't quite right. I don't want to be critical because there was nothing really to criticize and we all thoroughly enjoyed our time in Ovacik/Hisaranu/Olu Deniz. The only conclusion we have come to is that Ali & Turkan used to run a aparthotel further down the road and therefore have lots of regulars. We think that if you book directly with Ali or are one of his regulars then you maybe get slightly more attention, ie, Ali greeting you with a drink in the bar on your arrival, fruit in your room, etc. We booked through a third party. So as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". As my boyfriend had been to that area before we had a fantastic time and overall the hotel was ok. I wouldn't not recommend it but neither would I push somebody to go there. With regard to previous reviews regarding the bar prices they seem to fluctuate depending on who serves you! Although we had air con in our room it was never chilled air that came out of it. It took the edge off the heat but didn't negate it. Thank you Ali & Turkan.

Just returned from this hotel, lovely friendly owners and staff, nothing too much trouble, we had a family room overlooking the pool, fantastic views of the mountains and sunsets, good location up a side street off the main road, we were bed & breakfast and the Turkish breakfasts were very nice, the alternatives were varied and reasonably priced. We did not have a problem getting sun beds round the pool and the hotel was very relaxing during the day and evenings, drinks prices were no dearer than the resort, thank you Ali, Turkan, family and staff for a great holiday, we will definitely be back next year.

Just returned from a week at this great family run hotel - excellent value for money, lovely food, pool area and run by a lovely family. I have to say that one other traveller that was staying at the same time as me quoted "not my scene here" - well why do you book a low budget holiday - we all know you get what you pay for.

There was a great menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner - all home cooked, tasty and reasonably priced - in fact some we so cheap I do not know how they made any profit. So yes I would and will be recommending this hotel to those of you who look for value for money with your holidays. If you want the five star - then book this with the major companies that rip you off.
thank you to Ali & Turcan for a great stay.

Really lovely family run hotel with a friendly dog called Sheba. Room was adequate and cleaned thoroughly. The shower did sometimes run piping hot then cold for some reason but it may have been due to others using it at peak times.
Breakfast was adequate and it was nice not to have the traditional breakfast of bread olives cheese meat boiled egg tomato and cucumber. Although I did pay to have scrambled eggs on toast one day as I was a bit hungover from a late night at the bar the night before !!
Found all items on the menu were reasonably priced including the half loaf tuna sandwich we had !!. I can thoroughly recommend the wraps as they were gorgeous and great value for money.
As for reviews about cost of drinks - as someone has already mentioned, of course drinks are going to be cheaper in the supermarket which would be the same in the UK - I wouldn't say the drinks were over priced and were on a par with other places we had drinks.
Great location easy walking distance to shops and restaurants and easy to get around on the Dolmus. Hisaronu market is on a Monday down by the roundabout and Fethiye is on a Tuesday and only a short Dolmus ride away and well worth a visit - especially the fish market.
Went to the show Talk of the Town which was brilliant and includes food albeit chicken and chips but it was adequate.
Pool area was lovely and we didn't have a problem getting a sunbed but then I don't think the hotel was full and may be different at the peak of the season.
We chose to go on holiday out of school holidays to avoid there being large amounts of children as we had hoped to recharge the batteries doing very little chilling by the pool. At the hotel there was quite a large family with children who were quite loud at times with the kids whining around the poolside and one of the adults playing Dolly Parton to everyone, which drowned out the relaxing background bar music. This obviously wasn't the hotels fault but this meant we had a few days that weren't so relaxed due to the constant noise.
We booked resort hopper transfers to and from the airport which was reasonably priced and only took about an hour.
Would certainly recommend this hotel - ok the rooms aren't ultra modern but then the rooms aren't that expensive and we only use the room for sleeping and showering because when on holiday I don't want to sit in the hotel room when there is so much more to see and do.

Wow.. !!! Our 2nd time to this location but our 1st time to this hotel after reading the reviews on here. This hotel cost a lot less than the previous hotel we stayed in but was 100 times better. I cannot praise this hotel and its delightfull, warm, welcoming owners enough. Booked direct with Ali via email and everything was sorted within minutes including a private taxi transfer to and from the airport. (which is advisable as a coach transfer takes ages). On arrival at the Tunacan our cases were whisked off to our room for us and we made our way to the bar for a long awaited ice cold beer. Within an hour at the bar we knew everyone as if we were family (something we never experienced at the last hotel we stayed in here, and have never experienced on our travels over the years)
The location couldn't be better- 2 mins down road to bars/restaurants, 10 mins walk to Hisaronu and a short bus ride to Olu Deniz which will cost u less than a pound .
The rooms at the Tunacan were a nice size and spotlessly clean.
The food at the hotel was amazing and the bar tarif as cheap as the bars down the road.
We split our 10 days holiday up into staying around the hotel pool and socialising and trips out and about and on the latter was always greeted on our return as if we were family.
To sum up- If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in this area with Exceptional owners who will go out of their way to make your holiday special then LOOK NO FURTHER.

Lastly, because i've said enough ! I take my hat off to all at the Tunacan Ali,Turkan,Berksan,Berke sone, the cleaner (lovely lady), the chef and not forgetting the beautifull friendly Sheba- YOU DO A FANTASTIC JOB, WE MISS YOU DEARLY AND YES WE WILL BE BACK....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have only praise for Ali, Turkan and all the staff at the Tunacan. What a delightful family run hotel where we were addressed by our Christian names from day one. The rooms were spacious, clean and equipped with efficient Air conditioning, as well as plenty of sockets.the facilities in the complex were more than adequate though we spent a lot of our time out and about and it was easy to get public transport from the end of the street. Not only were our hosts friendly but they were very helpful with excursions and local information as well as a few Turkish phrases, even though English is spoken well by the local business people. A wonderful golden nugget with thanks to all. A memorable first Turkish holiday doubt it will be our last.
