“Wonderful experience!!”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

My husband and I went to this lovely restaurant during our 2 week stay in June 2012 at 8pm. It is a beautifully furnished restaurant, with purple wallpaper and purple and white drapes. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant, and offered us a table near the window, we chose a bottle of the rose house wine. There were about 10 starters to choose from on the menu, and about 14 main courses, and 6 desserts, although there were daily specials. It was a fixed price menu - 2 courses 16 euros, 3 courses 19 euros. My husband chose an extra of bread with alioli verde, homemade with parsley and garlic (1.50). I chose the prawn cocktail for starters and my husband had pate (both were very good). For main I had the pork fillet medallions and my husband had one of the specials - beef pie with mushrooms. Both meals had a selection of veg and wonderful potatoes - 'papatas pobre La Cocina' I did not have a dessert, but my husband had New York Cheesecake and I had a coffee. The bill came to 50 euros, which I thought was very reasonable, considering the quality of the food, and the lovely surroundings. A thoroughly wonderful experience, and we will definately go back when we are next in the area.

“What a lovely restaurant!”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

We visited your restaurant on Tues 12th June, and had a lovely evening. From the bread and alioli to the desert...........everything was lovely. Staff were very friendly and chatty too. Our daughter is visiting us in July and we have already told her we will be taking her to your restaurant, hopefully we will be dinning here again before she visits us. Plenty of choice on the menu, prices good too depending on 2 or 3 courses. Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to contribute such a lovely review and we are also pleased to read that you enjoyed your evening with us. We have now changed our fixed price menu to a la carte but keeping the menu priced more or less within the same pricing as the fixed price menu. Now the weather is much warmer many of our clients do not have the appetite to eat 2 or 3 plates so we have decided for the time being to price the items individually, which will hopefully keep everyone happy! We look forward to seeing you when you return with your family. Best wishes.....

“Fab Fab Fab !!!!”

If you want truly great food and super attentive service look no further. The current Sunday lunch deal is fantastic value. Don't miss the sherry soaked raisins on ice cream. I nearly ordered a second portion..... and I don't eat deserts!

Thank you for your great review on Tripadvisor. You will be pleased to hear that we will be continuing the 3 course Sunday lunch with many choices to select from that should suit all tastes and this menu includes half a bottle of wine per person which makes it a great value lunch. We have changed our evening menu during the week to a la carte but based on the same pricing structure that we had with the menu price. We are finding that many customers do not necessarily want to eat 2 or 3 plates, especially as the weather is now much warmer and consequently some appetites are reduced, although sadly this does not affect me!!
Once again thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon.

“A strange evening”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

We visited here on a warm June evening on the recommendation of a guide book. Walking in was like being transported to a wannabe London restaurant from 15 years ago. The decor seemed totally ill at ease with the small Spanish town surroundings. It was quite for a Saturday night (presumably as we ate late and the majority of the clientele were English and therefore ate early) and the ambiance can best be described as American diner meets muted Gothic opulence. The menu is reasonable (16 euros for two courses, 19 euros for three) but uninspiring. In truth, the menu paints the dishes to be far superior than in reality. The food is good standard English pub fare, tarted up a little. The waitress (who I also think was the owner) was helpful, but not full of the joys of Spring and the whole experience left my American companion even more convinced that English food is not all I make it out to be.

We remember your visit very well, you certainly left quite an impression on Laurie.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review, but you have completely missed the point, La Cocina is, as it states at the top of our menu: Relaxed dining bistro style, inspired by regional Spanish and British gastronomy, focusing on taste, quality and value for money
The reason that you did not get the full Laurie hospitality treatment, was that she sensed that you were not in good spirits together, and that there was some tension between you, she felt a little awkward and that distance was required, so backed off.
Yes most of our diners do eat early, as we focus on the full and part time residents of our town and they mainly prefer to arrive at 8 ish.
Muted gothic opulence, we should be so lucky! What a bizarre phrase!

We appreciate that you took the time to contribute a review to Tripadvisor on our restaurant and we feel sorry that the food did not meet with your expectations. We aim to offer a bistro style dining experience offering our customers a good choice of courses, all home produced, within the price point that we work to. Although we do not feel that there are any not such good choices on the menu and as food is a personal taste hopefully you will return again to try something different that you will enjoy more. Our very best to you....
