We don't get to Denia as much as we'd like. But when we do, we love to dine at Al Gusto, tucked away just off the top of the main street in Carrer Colon. Chef proprietor Phil Humphries cooks with flair and distinction - he is a chef about whom other local chefs speak highly too.
His food offering is wide-ranging and international - from steaks sizzled on slates to liver and bacon to subtly fragrant Thai cuisine. And a whole lot of other freshly-created dishes too.
My absolute favourites are Phil's savoury pancakes. Had one there as a starter in March filled with creamy herbs and spinach and ricotta and it was heavenly. He'll usually make you one, even if it's not on the menu.
This is a tiny restaurant (with front of house run by Phil's wife Hazel) so it's worth booking if you can. Lunchtime and evenings, he can be busy because he is as popular with local Spaniards as he is with the English. Menu del dia at lunchtime is a particular bargain. One of the best little restaurants in the heart of Denia.

Thanks to Trip Advisor comments we prioritized a visit to Al Gusto while in Denia. An excellent choice. The 11 Euro menu del dia is comprised of high quality choices, 4 entrees, 4 mains, 4 desserts. Go a little higher to 15 or 19 Euros and the food is even more chef-ly and the choices wider. There is an entree, main, and dessert du jour each day. Also a very nice Sunday lunch formule that is more extensive than the menu del dia. The chef and his wife are delightful, friendly and talented. As other reviewers have mentioned, the main courses are accompanied by perfectly cooked and often inventively seasoned veggies (not always common in Spain!) and the chef has a deft touch with spices and herbs not in a fusion-y far out way but in a deliciously well thought out way. If I lived in Denia I'd be here weekly! Lovely food, nice ambience and very fair prices for the high quality of the meals. If you are looking for fresh, delicious cuisine and want a break from pure Valencian or Spanish cuisine make this a priority for lunch or dinner. Closed Tuesdays and Saturday lunch.

I visited Al Gusto with a number of friends on 11th April 2013.
The food was first class, with all three courses being extremely enjoyable.
I particularly enjoyed the Thai Green Curry, which I must say was the best curry I have ever tasted. It was spicy with a beautiful flavour, and one which I would not hesitate in ordering again.
The food and service was excellent, which made the evening a very memorable one.
Al Gusto is a small restaurant, but is one to be recommended when in Denia.

We went to this restaurant on the last day of our holiday and we had a great meal. The set menu has great choice and is really excellent value. The food was of a very high standard, well presented and the service was excellent. The house red is also worth having! Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We have eaten many times at Al Gusto and have never been disappointed. This time we had the set Sunday lunch menu , three excellent courses all cooked and presented extremely well ,portion sizes were just right , the flavours were great and all went well together.
We would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will definitely be paying a visit when we are next in the area.
