This restaurant/bar is located in a lovely old stone building in the centre of Denia. It has been beautifully refurbished but still retains the old stone arches which formed the stable (hence the name) There was a very welcoming fire in the hearth. The restaurant is run by two related couples who also run an excellent beach bar and restaurant (Chiringuito) about 5Kms North of Denia at Al Palmar but another review for that.....
The food is excellent and can be eaten either at the bar or in the upstairs restaurant. If you want to eat in the restaurant make sure it's after c9:30 as this is definitely a Spanish restaurant and they tend to eat late and it'd probably be better to book particularly at the week-end. Having said that it is very Spanish the owners and staff do speak reasonable English and are really helpful, friendly and will take time and trouble to take you through the menu. We spent two consequtive evenings there. The first just two of us and we shared a lovely warm spinach, duck, goats cheese and tomato salad followed (again shared) by an excellent black angus sliced and in the centre of the table. We actually sat on the soffas with a low coffee table between us and it was just like home. The second night was 12th Night parade (if you are in Spain on 5th Jan then look for these parades which represents the coming of the "3 wise men" or "kings" to the stable in Bethlehem; this is the night when traditionally children in Spain get their presents). Anyway back to our review. 4 of us ate this time; we booked for about 8:30 again sitting on the sofas. We had the chef's selection of 7 tapas followed by a postre. The quality was again excellent and beautifully presented. Just trying to remember some of the courses we had; sashimi of salmon, tempera of cod, white asparagus wrapped in Serrano ham, artichoke with foie gras, duck (somehow inside) poached egg, quails legs and finally lamb kebab. Oh, I forgot the tarta manzana for desert! Our stomachs were groaning afterwards but only from volume and all of this for €22 exc. iva! Oh, and I forgot to mention the complementary mini "scotch egg" with quail egg and horseradish when we sat down at the beginning. The quality and presentation was excellent. They have a very enjoyable Ribera del Duero as house wine.
