Food was okay, not bad just lacking true Mexican flavor. Server was very nice. Good sized portions of food.

This is more for people visiting from other countries. If you are similar to me you want a local experience when visiting other countries. To expand the experience beyond tourist stops and restaurant chains.

La Fonda is great a perfect example of rural Arizonan Mexican food. It is mixture of Mexican and New Mexican cuisine with some local flavor thrown into the mix. La Fonda is as authentic as it comes, for that it is 4 stars. If you're after better food drive on two exits and have lunch at El Patio in Maguireville AZ

If you are into local go. If not pass it by on your way to Flagstaff.

If you ask the locals where they can get great Mexican food, La Fonda is almost always mentioned. I don't know why. The food is average, the general service is okay, the atmosphere is lousy, and the prices are a bit high for the quality of food. There are far better places to eat if you are spending some time in the Verde Valley. If you are looking for someplace near the interstate and don't want to keep traveling to Phoenix or Flagstaff (depending on your direction of travel), I suppose this restaurant is as good as the others in the Camp Verde area. That isn't saying much. Apparently the owner insists that the very, very bright lights must be turned up in the evening. We asked for the dimmer to be turned down, but it seems that the owner, who wasn't there, would have become upset, so we had to eat under a blinding chandelier with six high-wattage bulbs. The air conditioning was set to way to low a temp and the fan was set on high. We were freezing. The manager did eventually agree to turn down the A/C. The fan, though, was left on high. There is a handwritten note taped to the fan/lights indicating that they are not to be touched. So much for taking care of the customers.
