“Not a typical "castle"”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Don’t be looking for a typical castle on the top of a mountain: this is actually caves carved into the side of a mountain. Amazing! You are walking along a nice path behind the building and all of a sudden on the right you see that the mountain has an unusual appearance. Find out when the next presentation is being done outside in front of the castle because it is very informative. Be sure to see Montezuma Well also. It is about 11 miles down the road from there. Not much can live IN the water but there are some ducks ON the water.

“Good site to visit in central Arizona”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Consider making Montezuma Castle a scenic stop when driving between Phoenix and Flagstaff. Bring a picnic lunch and relax for a while, or if you are in a hurry, its easy access from the freeway means you can see the ruins in a half hour. The main attraction is the 20-room Native American dwelling in the cliffs above you, built between 1100 and 1300 A.D. Excellent exhibits in the visitor center explain the agrarian history of the Sinaguan Indians who built these structures, and artifacts include their pottery and basketry. A wide, paved pathway from the center makes a loop below the ruins and to the picnic area near the creek. Signage identifies the trees around you. Admission is $5.00. This nicely-maintained national monument provided more than I expected!

“Awe inspiring”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

The Montezuma Castle National Monument is a must see on your trip to Sedona. This awe inspiring architectural 'castle' amazes you as you think about how they could have built this 400 years ago. The National Park service has done a magnificent job restoring and keeping this treasure for all to see and enjoy!

The Native American landmarks in The United States are fascinating! We arrived here very late in the day at Ten to Five. They were monitoring the gate but fortunately the Park System lady let us in. We just had time to see the castle, take some pictures, and buy some postcards. The castle is amazing. Allow yourself more time to see it than we did. It is well worth the visit!
