“Will your house look this good in 800 years?”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

A part of a generation who grew up with formal little education about the native people of North America, we continue to be amazed by the level of civilization that had been attained over 1000 years ago. Who were these people? Why did they leave this place? And where did they go? These questions become more fascinating the more of these sites we visit. Montezuma's Castle is an amazingly well preserved cliff dwelling that shows evidence of sophisticated construction techniques (lintels, support pillars, etc). It's a lot smaller than Mesa Verde, but you can get a lot closer to it.

“Amazing Ruins”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

This site is administered by the National Park Service. Some of the most amazing native American Ruins we've found. Amazing when you consider ancient people without much to work with could pull these structures off. Very informative signs and exhibits along the 1/3 mile trail.

“Very impressed”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

This was definitely worth a detour in route from Phoenix to Flagstaff. The park was easy to find with good signage and only cost $5 a person. The quick walk to the ruins is easy and gave us an opportunity to stretch our legs. Once we started reading about the ruins we were like everyone around us and just dumbstruck that Native Americans had the ingenuity and fortitude to build their homes in the cliffs. Pictures do no justice-must see in person to appreciate.

“Stunning and amazing, worth the trip”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We loved it! It doesn't take long to visit this monument, because the "castle" (cliff dwelling) up on the side of the cliff is about all there is to see at this National Monument. However, it is beautiful, visually stunning and amazing. It is truly worth the stop, not too far off the highway. It is an incredible piece of architecture, and to think of the manual labor required to build it so many years ago. Wow. If you are anywhere in the area, stop and see Montezuma Castle!

“Our visit to Montezuma's castle.”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We visited the park during our visit to Sedona, AZ. The culture dates back to 700 to 900 C.E. which was abandoned by 1400's . Unfortunately it is 100 feet above the ground. You can finish seeing it in less than the time it takes you to get there. There is water fountain nearby .
