Owner description: The Castle of Lorca is the hallmark of the city, symbol of power and the incessant struggle between the Nasrid kingdom of Granada and the Crown of Castile. The castle-fortress is a place where history is lived first hand through exhibitions, workshops for the whole family, guided tours and extraordinary activities throughout the year. In this space, Ben Sakar (the Hawk's Son), the virtual mascot of the castle will show you scenarios as emblematic as the walls, the stables, the cisterns, the Tower of the Spur, the Tower Alfonsina or the Jewish Synagogue.

Made with kids in mind. Lady at reception was really informative. Introduction video is very much designed for kids. Audio commentary was really good. Lots to wander around and discover. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Lorca. Nice walk up to as long a its not too hot.

The town was lovely and we enjoyed walking through it. Lots of interesting spots. Would love to return.

The castle is still under renovation after the earth quake two years ago, so the big tower is still closed. The castle is a wonderful place to walk around for people interested in old history. From the tower there is a fantastic view over the castle, Lorca and its surroundings. There is a small cafe in the middle of the castle, where you may get some refreshments and souvenirs. Very friendly staff there.

We had a great few hours visiting this castle. The setting is incredible with amazing views over the surrounding areas. We had the place virtually to ourselves and our two boys aged 3 and 6 loved the space available to run and explore. The exhibitions were really interesting and there was an opportunity for us all to get dressed up. I'd suggest taking a picnic as there are some great areas to sit, eat and take in the views. There's also a great little playground with a small castle. We also visited the Parador next door which is an incredible building too.

Having lived in Almeria for 2 years we finally got around to visiting Lorca Castle in Murcia province just after the start of the year when we felt it may be quieter. Our decision proved to be correct as although the temperature was in the high teens there were fewer than 30-40 visitors, all taking advantage of the reduced admission fee(5euros) including English audio guide. A very informative and interesting self-tour took us nicely upto lunchtime when we drove into the old city itself to find a tapas bar for refreshment! With the added attraction of a first class shopping centre on the outskirts of Lorca on the way to Aguilas we felt our day out was one of the highlights of the festive period!
