My partner and I dined once again at The Tasting Room in downtown Frederick, MD on what is known as a First Saturday. The streets were filled with happy people, walking with their children and dogs (most of the shops are pet friendly). Our table was ready for us to occupy, and our cheerful waiter brought us cold water and delicious bread and butter right away. Although the menu had lots of interesting choices, we opted for crispy calamari (my favorite!) to start, along with salads and a green lentil soup (my partner, who is French and knows good food, said this was one of the best soups he had ever tasted). We later found out that the soup had just appeared for the first time on the menu; please make it a standard item! He then enjoyed a filet mignon and blueberry sorbet, which was frosty and tasted like frozen berries. Although The Tasting room is noisy, which does detract from the pleasure of dining, the food is consistently good, and we will continue to return.

On a Monday when many other restaurantes (VOLT!) were closed, Tasting Room was a good choice for lunch. The decor is modern though the dining area is not very large. The menu is contemporary, short and featuring local ingredients. The wine list is reasonablet though only one rose was available (another available as half-bottle). Green gazpacho was refreshing and had just a hint of olive oil and cilantro, but summer salad was terrific: arugula, squash, green beans, heirloom tomatoes, and radishes - all local. Risotto with crab and corn was excellent, and a plate of shrimp and grits was garnished with wonderfully crisp kale. Pineapple bread pudding was also excellent, and the only flaw was espresso prepared with too much water (and taken off the bill when this was pointed out). Although this is not a cheap restaurant, the menu is interesting and very well prepared. Definitely a good choice in the center of Frederick.

I have been to the Tasting Room several times and had always been fairly satisfied despite the sometimes pretentious wait staff and the inflated prices. This week I invited six people for dinner there and four out of six dinners were so salty they were inedible. The wait staff were cooperative and resubmitted our order but the second time around it was more of the same salty fare. After this I was left speechless and embarrassed. They took $50 off of our bill but still that was very poor compensation for a ruined dining experience for six. Was good in the past, but I will pass on the Tasting Room next time....

I stopped by for a glass of wine and dessert on a Tuesday night. Extremely friendly service, and the chocolate dessert was out of this world! Will visit again!

We visited for the first time on a Friday night. The food was very nice, but not as exciting as I was expecting from other reviews. The service was just ok, a little too fast as we were in and out after 3 courses in an hour. The tables are very close, and we were grateful nobody was put next to us.
It was all very pleasant, but nothing was outstanding, except...the pineapple bread pudding , very yummy !
We will probably return with a group , as it's not so great for couples maybe .
