4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

On November 5, 1781, Congress elected John Hanson as president of the United States under the Articles of Confederation. During Hanson's term as president, General George Washington defeated the British army at Yorktown and presented Cornwallis's sword to Congress. The Memorial includes a statue of President John Hanson in an interpretive setting. Hanson lived here between 1769 and his death in 1783.
