“Great meal and staff”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

Not having been to a hibachi-style restaurant in many years, we wandered into this a little late on an evening during a treacherous winter storm (staying at hotel across the street). Greeted warmly, we were entertained by our chef and an excellent meal.....a lot more food than we should have eaten, but it was of high quality and appropriately priced. Off-the-menu selections available as well with sushi bar in the bar/dining area. A most enjoyable treat. We would return if we lived here.

“Food great, cook super performer”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

I along with my wife, daughter, son and best friend which had a birthday was in the Frederick Md area and decided to try this steak house out. We arrived at 4:30 which we were the first customers as they just opened. We have been to other Japanese steak houses before so we knew the chef would be putting on the cooking show. Not your average show as he was a super entertainer. He really made the dinner a super experience. All the food was excellent pricey but well worth it.
I will be back again and hope to get the same cook.

“Awesome frederick sushi”
Reviewed October 25, 2013 via mobile

Always reliable. Great place to hit before the movies. Hot sake or Kirin on tap are a nice accompaniment to a good crunch roll, live scallops, or toro.

“Lunch Buffet Review - pretty good, but small sushi pieces”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

I'm a sushi lover, so I'm pretty particular about my sushi. This is a decent buffet lunch and reasonably priced.

The Good:
1) Usually easy to get a seat at lunch time
2) Soup is included with lunch
3) There are several types of sushi and rolls to pick from
4) There are other side dishes - tempura, salad, and various other hot entree's to choose from

The Bad:
1) You have to look hard to find the fish in the rolls, mainly rice.
2) The sushi pieces are pretty small, but you can get as many as you want

Overall - it's not bad. If I want sushi and I'm in Frederick I usually go here. This place can not touch Yuraku's Sushi buffet in Germantown. They're the same price and the pieces are huge compared to Matsutake's. Plus the fish tastes fresher in Germantown.

Densha - which is new, also has a sushi buffet, but it doesn't include as much as Matsutake, but it does have the neat revolving belt you can pick sushi from as it goes by.

Our visit today had lack luster service. We didn't get offered drinks until we were ready to pay the bill and our plates weren't cleared until then also.

Keep in mind, this is only a buffet review - I can't comment on their regular menu or the teppanyaki experience.

“Simply sushi...or entertainment at your table”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

You have a couple of choices here: the grill, complete with entertaining food prep for a group of 10-12, or your own table at the sushi bar. We opted for the sushi bar. The sections of the restaurant are separated, but you can definitely hear the other diners "oohing and ahhing" over the antics at the grills, so I assume it must have been quite impressive. Still, our service was excellent. We ordered sushi and sashimi, which was quite good. The meal started with a salad, mostly iceberg lettuce with a tasty peanut dressing, and some miso soup. We ordered what we thought was Udon soup but was a brothless stir fry, though quite flavorful. The chicken fried rice was okay, but a huge portion; definitely more than we expected. We had rice for two more meals to take home! Overall, we were pleased with our meal and would recommend this place. The sushi was good.
