The Natl Museum of Civil War Medicine was our first stop when we got to Frederick. We found parking just in front of the building, but have plenty of change because the parking meters are expensive! We really enjoyed this two-story museum and learned a lot about everything medicine-related, from the state of medical education prior to the Civil War to the development of field hospitals and nursing. If this is your thing, you will love it! (We got a 10% AAA discount for entrance fee).

Parking may be a pain for large vehicles but it is very worthwhile. The explanations are easy to understand even for non medical people. Any student of the war should not miss it.

We have seen the sign for this museum off the interstate before and always wanted to stop. This time we did. The museum has a very low entrance fee ($7.50) and is two floors of interesting information and items which show how medicine was practiced during the civil war. It was fun and educational. It does not take long to go through and is in a cute downtown area in Frederick, MD. It was worth the stop!

The musem is small, located in downtown Frederick. Amazing how medicine grew to where it is today from what healthcare was some 200 or so years ago. A very informative tour for a minimal fee.

This is in main steet Frederick in one of its older buildings, exhibits are spread over 2 floors and a also a shop. you can easily spend 2 hours here learning about civil war medicine and treatment of injuries.

a section also covers the often forgotten treatment of the animals in the war.

there are plenty of car parks within easy walking distance of the museum and will let you walk the national road where the soldiers marched to the war.

dont miss it if you are in the area
