We live in an area close to civil war battlefields, so it was a nice surprise to visit here and learn something new! Our daughter has become interested in medical history and was fascinated. The admission price was a little steep for us, but we were practically the only ones there and spent a couple of hours. The bookstore has an excellent selection of specialized books. We parked right in front of the museum at a meter and walked up the street for lunch at a wonderful Thai restaurant. It obviously cannot compete with the Smithsonian, but was the perfect way to spend a quiet, stress-free cold January day.

This museum is fascinating and explores some very important aspects of the civil war. We made the mistake of coming late in the day and would have liked to have had more time to enjoy the exhibits, so leave yourself plenty of time. The exhibits contains many intersting curiosities. Well worth a visit.

Very interesting museum, covers all aspects of medicine during the Civil War. Good exhibits, lots to see and read. If you are a Civil War buff, spend some time here, you won't be disappointed. Good gift shop with extensive book selection. Located right downtown in historic, colonial Frederick.

This is a fascinating place to take children eight years old and older. Coupled with visits to the Monocacy Battlefield Museum, and the battlesfields and visitors centers at Antitietam and Gettysburg (each about 25-30 miles away from downtown Frederick), this makes a great 2-day Civil War experience for all ages.

The Volunteer Guides were helpful and friendly. The information gained at this museum is well worth the price of admission. There are admission discounts for seniors, students, and AAA members.

Two things I remembered from this museum are, the invention of triage areas to treat wounded patients, and the invention of horse-drawn ambulances to carry off the wounded.
