Description: Firestone's Culinary Tavern, opened in 1999, is located in downtown Frederick's picturesque Historic District. It is housed in a 1921 building that was initially the home of Shipley's Department Store. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood tavern. The Washington Post says, "the atmosphere is prime...the food is, too!".

I really enjoyed my visit here. This was a business lunch on a Sunday (ugh!) and when we walked in I noticed two things -- the place was packed and they had live music. The wait was about an hour, unless you wanted to sit at one of the high-tops in the bar. Great choice! Oh, the music? Really good trio playing a variety of jazz ... enjoyable.

Our server was Heather and she was great. Her service was attentive and never seemed overbearing at all. It just seemed like she anticipated things ... felt like our drinks were on an endless stream. We asked her what she recommended and she was honest with us. Told us what to avoid and what she recommended. She was spot on with her recommendations.

First, whatever you do ... order the pastrami sandwich. Unbelievable! Really well done and very tasty. I love Monte Cristo sandwiches and, as hard to find as they come, Firestone's was excellent. A little different approach, but so much lighter and very enjoyable! The food here seemed to be well prepared, very visually appealing, and very satisfying.

Second, the decor is pretty interesting. Very ... comfortable. I definitely see this place as a spot that could be very romantic and one that could appeal to folks of all ages.

Finally, I liked this place and will be going back when I return to town. It really was that good.

Very good food, great atmosphere, but don't go when you're in a hurry. It was not an issue for us but it may be for others.

After motorcycling through Frederick County backroads we ended up in Frederick city at Firestone's. It was a chilly Saturday and the restaurant was packed for lunch, so we decided to sit at the bar rather wait 45 minutes for a table. The bartender was great and got us our drinks quickly and took our order. We both got eggs benedict and WOW our orders were great. The muffing was crispy, the ham sliced thinly and the hollandaise was FAB. We have eaten at alot of other places for brunch - but I have got to say that the homefries that came with our order were Delicious!!! We'll be back soon.

The service was good, our Ian bartender was funny, quick, and helpful. He recommended the pastrami, which turned out to be magnificent. Firestone's makes their own (6-day-in-the-making) pastrami and it's worth it. We savored every bite. It had a Dijon (not mustardy) sauce using whole grain Dijon and was juicy and fork tender. The truffle fries had a unique and pleasant flavor. Topped off with a Flying Dog seasonal beer.

Firestone's restaurant on Market Street in Frederick offers reliably great service and well thought out menus that take advantage of locally sourced food and change with the seasons.
The service is friendly without being intrusive and the wait staff knows its wines.
Firestone's is comfortable and not stuffy but the casual nature of the place belies the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen.
This is out go-to restaurant for special occasions.
