For some reason, this was the most expensive of five paradors/ pousadas we stayed in (each for 1 or 2 nights) this year - and by a long way the worst experience. First of all, the view from the terrace is beautiful - looking over the river estuary. And the staff all seemed helpful and friendly - (- but we wondered whether that was because they knew we had drawn the short straw!) We desperately needed a good rest between two long days of driving - so our room in the basement, next to the gents loos and infested with mosquitos was a nightmare. Really don't think they should be renting it as so noisy and unpleasant. The hotel is pretty basic, and we found it a bit difficult to find. Parking across the road was useful though and we enjoyed a walk into town which is not at all touristy. Suspect many use this parador as a stopover on the way to Bilbao or Santiago, so hope this review will serve as a warning to others!

Stayed two nights in this luxury hotel, part of the National chain of Paradores. Had a beautiful room, with sunroom off the bed/sitting room. Good breakfaats. Very accommodating staff and helpful staff.

Room Tip: View to the river front and dock area is best.

Having read the other reviews (after booking!) we weren't expecting great things. Our room was wonderful - huge. Stunning views from our private covered terrace (most rooms seem to have one) over the river (think lake) to a beautiful town on a hill. We just sat there with our wine and watched the sun go down. The dinner was also better than expected. We had 2 different soups (white beans and razor clams was delicious, but rather big!) and then we had veal and fish as mains. Good quality - big portions again. Nice puds and wine not overpriced. All was for the 3 course set price of 32 euros and with that lovely view. Beds comfy and spacious bathroom - not a hint of smoke smell anywhere. Maybe other paradors are grander - and more expensive- but we thought this was great value. Would stay again. We got a good deal on a French hotel web site. Sorry but it was cheaper than trip advisor!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river - most do anyway

We only visited the restaurant, with its superb view over the bay.

The fish and seafood were outstanding and we finished with homemade icecream made with Cebreiro cheese which was probably some of the best icecream I've had!

No disrespect to Ribadeo, but it's not the most exciting tourist destination in Spain. That said, it has nice harbor area and a very workable old city. We had fun time walking around and others have used it as a staging point for the nearby beaches. Our main reason for staying, however, was to find a place near our next stop in Asturias. This parador was an unexpected pleasure. We chose a suite, which for our June visit was not all that expensive, and it was a truly lovely room with wonderful views, its own veranda, and two bathrooms. If this option works for you, I would certainly recommend it. Beyond that, the location next to the river and near town was quite good and the staff was delightful.

Room Tip: The suites are quite nice.

While hiking the Camino de la Costa, I needed one night of relative luxury so I stayed at the Parador in Ribadeo, Spain in October 2011 and it met my expectations for a good Parador hotel. The room was large and comfortable and there was a nice bonus space of a glass-enclosed balcony overlooking the river, where I could open the windows to enjoy some fresh air. It was a bit disconcerting when I got on the elevator to find that my room was on a lower floor, but that is the way the place is laid out, so no problem. The sheets and towels were nice and soft and the bed quite comfortable. I left the balcony doors open that night and awoke to see the sunrise over the river---a lovely view. I noticed there are many hotels in Ribadeo, but I would not hesitate to stay at the Ribadeo Parador again. Even the price was okay as far as Paradors go--- some are more expensive than others and this one was average in price.

Very pleasant Parador with lovely views. Our room was large and comfortable - we loved the glass enclosed balcony overlooking the river estuary and gardens.
Pleasant restaurant with a good variety of regional foods.
Very good service from reception to restaurant/bar staff.
Large private car park across the road from the hotel.
