We walked El Camino Francais, and while in Finisterre, we met Pilgrims that we had met on "The Way". They told us that they had taken a wrong turn and ended up in Lugo Spain. After listening to their glowing description, we decided to include Lugo in our after Pilgrimage tour of Spain. We booked the Pazo de Orban from our smart phones, and upon arrival at the hotel, were very impressed. The Hotel is a converted palace, and is replete with historical displays. The Hotel reflects the flavor of the city and will definitely put you into the proper frame of mind to tour and enjoy this wonderful, beautiful city. The staff was very friendly and helpful, detailing the the historical sites to see, their locations within the city, and everything the city and region had to offer including places to dine as well as a sampling of the local wines ! We are planing our next trip !
The breakfast is at an additional cost, but includes anything you could possibly want, including local delicious fare. They do not serve dinner, but will order dinner (they do have a full bar) for you and have it delivered, but why ???. The evening meal is a social event, including children playing in the square, people visiting with each other, laughter, singing, a truly unforgettable Spanish dining experience.

This converted palace just inside the Lugo Roman wall is a unique and eclectic refuge. The hotel is generously decorated with a mixture of antiques, curios and collectibles making a visit here a truly unique experience. We have stayed at Pazo de Orban several times and have always found the staff friendly and helpful, they are proud of their hotel and delighted to welcome guests to Lugo. Every room we have stayed in has been tastefully and uniquely decorated. The hotel does not have a full service restaurant, however a buffet breakfast is served and room service is available from a nearby restaurant. There is also a bar which is surprisingly quiet and is a pleasant refuge for a quiet drink at the end of the evening.
The first approach to the Pazo de Orban can be a little unnerving as it is necessary to drive through the city gates against a "Do Not Enter" sign and negotiate narrow pedestrianized streets.
The new parking lot attached to hotel is a great bonus as there is very little public parking in Lugo. As other reviewers mentioned, Lugo's small red light district is very close to the hotel however the ladies conduct their business relatively discretely and at no time did we feel threatened by their presence.
All in all Pazo de Orban is a lovely hotel and a great base from which to explore Galicia.

Room Tip: Book directly with the hotel for best value and be aware that standard rooms are small. Rooms that...

We got a lovely surprise turning through the city walls in Lugo - after ignoring the no entry sign as instructed. Pazo de Orban is down a quite side street with a private car park which is important inside Lugo.

The rooms are lovely with a huge TV, large comfortable bed and in our case massive bathroom.

Whilst the Pazo de Orban does not offer dinner it is in every other way a hotel. Nice breakfast and when you arrive back in the evening a great bar.

It is located 2 street from the first square with bars and then just further short walk to the Prazo Maior. So lots of eating and drinking on your doorstep.

The staff were all really friendly. We want to give an special recommendation to Inia who was frequently our receptionist, breakfast server and drinks provider. She could not do enough for us and had a great attitude. Despite having good English once she heard we were trying to speak Spanish she became our teacher of Spanish and Galician.

This is relatively new hotel in a part of Lugo Old Town that is on the way up. It was a palace that had fallen into disrepair. Now refurbished it is a great location to enjoy the old town and watch people wander round the city walls.

We stayed in a standard room, 20sqm, really really excellent. Parking right beside hotel. Hotel has real character and right beside the city walls. Mere seconds from tapas / restaurants.

Things to watch for .... Getting to hotel by car is "exciting" as you actually drive through a pedestrian arch and around a couple of narrow streets which is a little disconcerting when you haven't been there before. Wifi signal was weak in our room, you had to hover by the door. Also, seemed to be a mini red light district nearby. Felt very safe, just curious to see, and during the day not the evening. Nothing overt, just a few working girls knocking around.

Lovely little converted palace right by the city wall, and quite easy to get to if you know how. Unfortunately we slavishly followed the directions offered by Google Maps and ended up in a car park only a short distance away, but in a distinctly dodgy part of town peopled by shady looking characters. Once we were in the hotel’s own car-park, though, everything was fine – from the friendly welcome and the secure private car-park to the rooms in the hotel itself.
The decoration of the hotel is…what? Quirky? Eccentric? Eclectic? Certainly different, with bric-á-brac of various eras varying from old musical instruments to adverts and newspaper clippings, from religious statues to fashion mannequins and even 19th Century erotic photographs. The bedroom was comfortable and spacious and we had an excellent breakfast to fortify us for the drive to A Coruña.
Location was perfect: you can almost leap on to the ancient walls from the hotel and it is just a short walk from friendly squares joined by streets lined with little shops, bars, cafés and restaurants.

This is definitely one of my favourite hotels of all time. From the friendly welcome by the owner and his young son (great English by the way..), to the clever and tasteful blend of varied interior designs- antique, art deco, modern, rustic, eccentric; to the position, ...We had the BEST room with shuttered windows opening directly overlooking the wonderful town walls, old rooftops and the rural scenery beyond. The bathroom was to die for, you could host a party in the space. Powerful modern shower, huge bathtub. Such a comfortable bed. Exceptional value. The town of Lugo is fascinating and really I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It is a family run hotel, so they ask that you let them know if you will be late in or early leaving as the front doors are locked overnight-so maybe not ideal if you are party animals- which we were not! I am dreaming of an excuse to go back and stay for longer.....Oh and did I say how much I love this place..

We were 6 people travelling in large "people carrier" so reaching the hotel in this was tricky! There is a new car park next to the hotel, however you need to drive through a small roman arch to reach it. It can be done easily in a car, we managed it in our Mercedes 'tank' but it was a challenge. Don't let that discourage you from booking this hotel. Very beautiful rooms, stunning bathrooms and a great location. Yes the red light 'corner' is near but you don't need to pass it and at no time did we see anything unsavoury anywhere near the hotel, the area seemed quite safe. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, there is also a quirky bar which was great for a nightcap. The Manager/Owner? Spoke very little English but we managed and the girls on the desk spoke enough for us to get by. A great hotel at a very reasonable rate for the quality of the accommodation.

Room Tip: Our 3 rooms all beautiful, I saw the room they call economy room and it was also stunning.
