As a seeker of value in overnight lodging, I believe $50 or so is a fair amount for a bed, TV and shower in an average motel in the average small American town. Not, however, in the case of my night at the Economy Inn. I should have been paid to stay there. Family with children in room above me, pool "out of order" (looks pretty permanent to me), smokers hanging out near room, couldn't find any ice machine and no one at front desk. The outside door to the front desk is kept locked all the time, ostensibly because of the wind, and one must ring a bell to summon help or register. The room's refrigerator was inoperative and a small bar of soap was the single amenity offered. In short, it is not recommended by this seasoned traveler.
