It's been absolutely great. Vielen Dank an Clara und Joan für die herzliche (und doch sehr diskrete) Gastlichkeit. Wir haben uns total wohlgefühlt. We are already looking forward to returning to this magical place.

We had a wonderful visit to Begur, largely due to the graciousness of our hosts, Clara, Joan and Erica at the Aiguaclara hotel. Our room was large, with a very comfortable bed and windows opening onto a wonderful view of the castle
and overlooking a terrace. We were given maps and excellent advice on local hikes. We enjoyed a very good dinner at the hotel followed by an entrancing flamenco show. We felt like we were amongst friends. A thoroughly enjoyable stay!

We came to Barcelona for a wedding and spent an extra four days at the hotel Aiguaclara in Begur. I immediately took to Joan the proprietor. He couldn't have been more helpful and courteous.
The hotel was built as a townhouse by a local who had returned after making his fortune in Cuba in 1854. It has old tiled floors, high ceilings and doors you could ride through on horseback with traditional keys on a China key fob - rather than a credit card . The rooms are spacious and comfortable with a decidedly Edwardian feel to them: in fact it was almost as though it hadn’t changed since the days of The Grand Tour. I felt the staff hadn’t changed much either, they were so very friendly and helpful, although they told me they had only been there ten years. The whole place was pervaded with an air of comfort and relaxation; just what we were looking for in fact. On Friday evenings during dinner they have a DJ who plays tracks from 1970s vinyl records he inherited from his father, which was precisely my taste in music. It made such a very pleasant change from a four-star American chain hotel!

Room Tip: Our room had a large terrace. Probably more expensive but well worth it.

We stayed 6 nights in this very grand old colonial type building which has an amazing staircase and wonderfully high ceilings. The interior is furnished vintage style with lots of quirky bits and pieces everywhere you look. Our room was almost like a suite with a bedroom enclosed by very tall french glass windows and a seating area with french doors that opened out onto a lovely terrace overlooking the castle. The bathroom was small but had an excellent shower with plenty of very hot water. Clean towels were provided everyday if you required and the sheets were changed everyday. Beach towels also provided which was really useful as we didn't take any! The one and only reason why I didn't give the full 5 stars was the bed, the mattress was quite lumpy and after 3 nights my back was aching quite badly.

Joan and Clara are very charming, welcoming and went out of their way in giving us routes for long walks to discover some amazing beaches and booking us restaurants in the village.

Breakfast in the morning from 9-11 was buffet style with a huge choice and lovely orange juice and espresso coffee. We ate in their restaurant two nights of our stay. The first night there was a live flamenco show and the second night a vinly DJ night playing some old classics. Great to have entertainment whilst dining!

All in all a very homely type run hotel in an amazing building and I would definately recommend it.

Room Tip: Room No. 4 has an amazing terrace overlooking the castle.

Myself and 3 girlfriends escaped our normal lives (husbands, kids, school, work) for a few days R&R in Begur. We stayed in the hotel's apartment. My husband and I have been to Aiguaclara restaurant many times, so I knew that we would be well looked after, but it was my friends first time. It most certainly won't be their last! We were all so well looked after - from the moment we stepped into the hotel on arrival to the sad goodbyes after 3 glorious days. The apartment was absolutely perfect - it had everything we needed, plus more. There was plenty of space for the 4 of us to chill-out, with the lounge area, gorgeous terrace, kitchen and the huge bedrooms. Absolute heaven. I can't wait to go back next year!

This was my first visit to the Hotel Aiguaclara this time travelling alone on family buisness for one night only. On arrival I had an instant and friendly welcome from Joan and his staff and was settled in with some fresh coffee and juice notwithstanding that breakfast had finished a few hours before. It is difficult to accurately describe the hotel - "slightly quirky bohemian chic" is perhaps the closest I can manage - however you may decide to describe it, you will find the rooms clean, light and spacious and a sense of total calm and well being emanating at all times around the hotel. That evening refreshed with some excellent pre dinner mojitos, I thoroughly enjoyed the truly excellent recommendations by Joan and his staff Ingrid and Henry of some local Catalan dishes from what is a relatively short, but very appealing menu. With the restaurant full (it was off season) of a mix of families, couples and locals and the DJ (do not be put off) playing a delightful and non intrusive selection of jazz, I had a fantastic and relaxing meal in what was a delightful atmosphere, before enjoying a couple of nightcaps in the outside bar with the lights twinkling and more people drifting in and out for dinner or drinks. What more can I say - the Hotel Aiguaclara is a genuine jewel in what is my favourite part of Spain - despite being away from my family I simply didn't want to leave on Saturday! Joan, Clara and team - thank you!

The fantastic reviews and photographs on the website were what attracted us to this hotel, but in reality neither do the place justice! The wonderful thing about Aiguaclara is that it doesn't really feel like a hotel - it's more like staying in a friend's very beautiful home, because while you're there, you're really made to feel more like 'friends' rather than 'customers'. That goes for the children too: it is a rare treat to stay in such a beautiful place with small children and be made to feel so welcome. As for the location, wow! Begur and the surrounding villages and coastline are so beautiful. We were there for 4 nights, but could easily have spent at least a week here. We'll definitely be back! Congratulations to all at Hotel Aiguaclara for creating a very special place to stay!
