“Went back twice”

Delicious light tasty food, good value and lovely service. Nice range of selections and beautiful comfortable dining room - vinyl night on Fridays was excellent, chilled vibe on Saturday was very enjoyable.

“Lovely ambiance, good value”

If you're some world-weary urban sophisticate who spends time in London and New York, you may find the Aiguaclara tedious. We're country bumpkins, so we enjoyed the shabby-chic decor, urban vibe, and vinyl-playing DJ -- they have a "vinyl night" every Friday, with records from about the 1940s to the 1970s. When we arrived about 9, it was packed and there were no free tables, but we sat down by the DJ for a drink, and to enjoy the music for a while before trying elsewhere, and after about half an hour the manager found us a table. The staff were friendly, the food wasn't exceptional but it was good -- and relatively cheap for Begur, at 27 euros for three courses -- and we had a lovely bottle of local wine priced at only 11 euros. We enjoyed it very much, and we'd go back.

“Much ado about nothing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

This place gets high praise on sites like i-escape and in the British press for its decor. Stylish? Sure. Unique? Only if you haven't been in London or New York in the past 10 years.

Retro clocks, fairy lights, mismatched chairs, old LPs - this looks like every cupcake shop and vintage clothes store in Hoxton or the Lower East Side. It's like eating in Urban Outfitters. That really shouldn't matter, but when they're selling homemade throw pillows for 24 euro, they're clearly a bit impressed with themselves. That carries over to the service, which varies from cool to downright snooty.

All of this would be fine if the food were special. It's not. The pumpkin ravioli is bland to the point of being insipid. Grilled tuna is cooked to temp, but all the mains come with the same sour, watery ratatouille, and drizzled with basil pesto like it is still 1998. The bread basket consists of a very average baguette, the Mojito sorbet hadn't set properly when we had it, and there's better coffee elsewhere in town. The saving grace is that Aiguaclara is reasonably priced compared to other restaurants around Begur.

This might be a nice little spot if it weren't so contrived. As it is, the disconnect between the experience and the pretension is almost farcical. They play music on Fridays, and the patio seems like a mellow spot to sip an overpriced gin and tonic, but you should probably eat before your arrive.

“Top ambiente, good food and very friendly service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

It is really worth going. Live music and decoration made it a very lovely evening. Food was great, fresh and innovative and at reasonable prizes. Restaurant was packed, so reservation is necessary. Location is in the middle of the village. Owners are very welcoming. We will be back for another romantic dinner.
