While they often host traveling exhibits, the core collection is closely related to the history of the area. Great if you're a history buff, but even if not, you get a real feel for old New England when you visit.

We took our children to the Concord Museum for a day of "forced family fun." It turned out to be the biggest hit of the entire fall of FFF Sundays. There is a scavenger hunt that really keeps the children engaged, and the Family Trees exhibit was outstanding. Everyone loved it, both the adults and the kids. While the children circled back to revisit their favorite trees, my husband and I took some time looking at the permanent collection. What a beautiful collection of furniture and other Americana. Concord has such a rich history. It's the site of the "shot heard round the world" and the home of many famous authors and existentialists. Well worth the trip and a total bargain compared to the bigger Boston museums that overwhelm the kids.

This is a beautiful little museum. The entrance fee is a little steep, but I guess the upkeep for a building like this must be pretty high. For me, it was worth the fee to see Paul Revere's lantern. I get the impression they really try hard at this museum, the exhibits were engaging and the staff were really friendly. Would be a great place to take kids.
