Given that this restaurant is only open for dinner, and is 40-45 min from the entrance, much of its clientele is basically captive - i.e is staying at the lodge overnight. And its location on the rim, with windows looking South over the park area is fabulous. You might therefore think that this restaurant does not need to take much care with its food or service -- and you would be wrong. The food was excellent - I had the marinated Quail served with prickly pear red pepper jam, and my husband had the Elk Shepherd's Pie. The meal comes with their own black bean hummus. (My only quibble with the food was that the green chile mashed potatoes were dry and not as good as they sounded.) Service was absolutely fabulous - Rhonda was patient, knowledgeable, and checked often without being obtrusive. Highly recommend this place. And it was only a tad bit more expensive than your run-of-the-mill good steak place.
