If you can do one our - do this one. It is more fun and you get a more firsthand experience here, as the group is smaller and you are actuallly inside the cliff dwellings walking around inside the dwelling, rather than looking at it from outside.

The 32' ladder is not scray at all, I am afraid of heights - but really was perfectly fine to do this. My kids 8 and 11 just loved it and the tunnel - its over before it even begins.. it so short..and easily doable.

A neat experience. Take lots of photos.

The wife signed us up for a wonderful tour with the Ranger. Not for the weak of heart, because the first part of the tour involves climbing a 60 foot wooden hand made ladder.
The last part crawling through a small tunnel not for the very wide of hips!
Every thing else was great. You get to get up close in the ruins, walk in the court yards, while the Ranger gives you the in-depth information on the dwellings. A must see tour for the whole family as long as they can climb a ladder.

Denise led our tour to Balcony House. She was wonderful and we loved how she expertly wove the importance of respect for and kindness toward all living things into her talk. She effectively painted an interesting picture of how these people lived and how they viewed the world around them. This tour has a couple of ladders to climb, a tight squeeze or two through fairly short tunnels, and some close encounters with fairly steep drop-offs. These elements made the experience even more fun!

We were not sure if we would have time to visit the Balcony House, but boy am I glad we did. The ranger-guided tour was by far my favorite part of the park as we were able to learn more about these stunning dwellings and the remarkable people that built them. From archaeology to religion, you will learn a lot and have fun on this ranger-guided tour.

While at Mesa Verde we took a guided tour ($3 per person) and Balcony House was our 2nd tour that day. Amazingly Beautiful! We loved it! While I am scared of heights this tour was a bit challenging! There is a 36' ladder that you climb to get inside the Balcony House. After visiting the site you go through a 12' tunnel to exit and climb another ladder that is 10' and then climb up the rock steps to exit all the way out. It was worth it!! Great time - Enjoy!!
