Right at the base of Headquarters on Chapin Mesa. A nice touch is all the benches for resting on the switchbacks down to the site, especially the ones in the darker and very cool alcove where the spring is. :-)

We enjoyed a slower pace of seeing this dwelling on our own, no guides. It is a beautiful path down to the dwelling and there is a great self guide book and rangers who will point out the different aspects of the dwelling.

We had already toured 2 of the other ruins before we saw Spruce. It's a good set of ruins if you can not get tickets into the others but I think Cliff Palace is tops!

Nice little hike down from the museum. This is a self guided tour, there is a ranger down at the bottom to answer questions and yell at you if you get on the ruin walls. There is a short ladder you can climb down to get to the bottom. If you go to the exit sign you have a farther hike back up. Just go the way you came, watch for poison ivy.

This is a good stop if you can't get to cliff palace or balcony house. Otherwise, the only reason to visit would be to climb down into the kiva - which made it totally worth it in my opinion. This area was very crowded, and the only restaurant here was a 45 minute very slowly moving line for sandwiches.
