“Our visit to Mesa Verde was wonderful and the staff was awsome.”
Reviewed May 26, 2010

We had such a good time that we can't wait to go back. The lodge is very comfortable and romantic) with a great view of the park. The people that work their make you feel at home and are happy to help visitors. The staff at the front desk of Far View Lodge, the housekeepers, the restaurant employees, the rangers, the bartender, the bus drivers and just about everyone else were so friendly. You can tell they enjoy their jobs!
We also enjoyed the tours and ruins. Next time we will hike some of the trails. We have been to Yellowstone after the fires and Mesa Verde also had massive fires that make you appreciate nature. We noticed a lot of wildlife too. Don't forget a pair of binoculars.
We missed a television at night but really didn't need one with all there is to do at the park. Its a good idea to get up at a decent hour to eat and catch tours before it gets too hot or they get crowded. We drove to many different self-guided sites in the afternoons.
For dinner we ate at the Metate Restaurant. They have a good chef who prepares local foods and they are worth the price.
We definately plan to visit again to take in what we missed. Mesa Verde is an awsome National Park!

We stayed for 2 nights at Far View. I have stayed their before and it was just as good this time. The rooms do show their use but the location is what you pay for. We had a King Kiva room which I recommend. Our room was clean and comfortable. After hiking and touring the park, sitting on our porch was great. Their is no way to put a price on that view! We had 2 good meals at the Metate Lounge. I recommend the trout.
Mesa verde is such a special place, what an honor it was just to experience it. Our rangers that toured us at Cliff Palace and Balcony house were great. Clyde did a wonderful ending of his tour of Balcony house. Talking of the beginning and end of our lives and about completing the circle of life. Hope someone else will get to experience that.

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge 2nights. The staff is amazingly efficient and friendly. This traveler friendly attitude carried over to all the National Park staff. The view was fantastic from the Lodge and the information for the park is just across the street. No in room telephone and no television were a big plus since we spent all waking time hiking, driving and photographing the many area attractions. Not overcrowded. Restaurant is great. Excellent experience.

This is the place to stay if you are planning more than 1 day touring Mesa Verde National Park, since it is a challenging drive up to the top of the Mesa. I wouldn't want to do it every day. Yes the rooms as basic, that is what you usually get inside the parks. You are paying for the location and view. The room had everything we needed, was very clean, and had a great balcony looking out for miles over the Mesa. One morning we saw a deer pass by. It was cold the days we were there so we used the heater. Unlike a previous reviewer we did not find it noisy at all, just a quiet constant hum.
If you like Ancient Puebloan ruins, Mesa Verde is a must see. We had a close look at 3 large ruins, which can be reached by someone with basic fitness. There is some climbing, but just stop to catch your breath every so often.

The stress free comment is because the lodge is about 15? miles inside the park. The park has received stimulus $$ and there are several "waits" in your car in the first 10 miles. So staying at the Far View Lodge is very convenient so you can stay in the park and not deal with road construction. When we visited only Chapin Mesa open for hiking and ruin viewing.

The Lodge rooms looks like 70's architecture...but the rooms are clean and we slept soundly in the beds and after a hard day of hiking and ruin visiting, the shower was heaven.. There is a small refrigerator in the room...so suggest brining some beer and wine and snacks to enjoy sitting out on your balcony before or after dinner.

Loved the restaurant fabulous dinners. Many entrees done with a native american cusine twist. Had the steak and the next night the pasta both dinners execllent. Husband had the chicken one night and the chile rellano the next night & loved both. Had my first prickly pear margarita -very good!

Hiked the Petrogyph Trail...said: moderate strenuous...I thought "boot camp". Wore my good hiking boots and had an old ski pole which I was thankful to have and a large water jug. Very easy trail to sprain ankle as trail had lots of stone steps, rocks, ledges, and sharp uphill rock climbing and jumping down. Many folks on trail did not have water or appropriate shoes-might have thought they were in Disneyland. Pretty sure they did not complete the hike. All in all an amazing experience. Have new appreciation on how the Anasazi lived and survived. Everyone should visit Mesa Verde at least once in their lifetime.

The campground was still closed and we'd caught the late tour of the Cliff Dwellings - rather than a sunset drive down the hill we opted for the recently opened Lodge. The view was nice, the room was basic and clean. I was surprised at the cost, but I expect it sees a lot of business later in the season. Didn't try the restaurant or lounge, so our stay was just an average, pleasant over-nighter.
