“My home from home, I love the peace, access to the lake, and guided tours.”

All you need for a simple cofortable stay near Embalse de Negratin, with discrete but super helpful hosts. Everything in the cueva is spotless but simple, a great dining area for endless chats and tapas!

The Cueva Alfano is near Freila, and 15 -20 min from Baza, close to the quirky Banos de Zujar and almost on the banks of Negratin.

In winter it's just over an hour to the skiing at Sierra Nevada.

This area is so stunning. Mountains which feel almost alpine, Natural Parks, the high plain (Altiplano) with arable and olives and almonds, the Gorafe desert, the massive man made lake - Negratin, the city of Baza and the smaller town of Orce with amazing ancient pre-historic and early historical remains... and free tapas with every beer!

We have been here a fair few times, and what brings us back (apart from the lacation, which is super) is of course the hosts Alison and Max, and their family of lovable dogs. Our best days ever were a full day guided off road tour by Max, he is the man of the desert, taking us to get to know Gorafe desert for the first time , and then, up the mountain Sta Barbara in Sierra De Baza. SO high and SO cold! take a coat! fascinating visits to disused mines where minerals were littering the site, shining metals and crystals... too heavy for hand baggage traveller like us!

We have stayed in January too, and sledged in the snowy desert, howzat for a concept!

I do not think that you would come to this sort of holiday if you were seeking luxury and perfection, it's not that sort of place, it's an incredibly tough area of Spain, where less than 40 years ago, people lived in caves with little or no electricity, very basic conditions, now these caves are often abandoned, or bought and renovated to make amazing dwellings which keep an ambient temperatire which offsets the baking heat of the summer and very cold winter with no need for central heating (a stove is good though) and certainly no need for aircon in summer, so EXTREMELY eco friendly. I would not live in any other sort of house in Spain now I have experienced a cave-house.

Discover a well kept secret area of Spain, with the best hosts!
