It is claimed that Trevelez is the highest town in Spain and the cool mountain air is ideal for dry curing ham. And Meson Joaquin is the place to try them out.
In winter the cosy interior is warmed by a huge open log fire and you can sit there admiring the hundreds of hams hanging from the ceiling above your head. The outside terrace which is sheltered and south facing looks down of the valley. Our usual lunch here consists of whatever soup of the day is on offer (always tasty - often unusual) and a large platter of mixed cold meats accompanied by fresh baked bread. With a nice glass of wine and coffees, the cost is under 25 euros for two people.
