Stayed here for 2 nights to do a bit of hiking in the region and fancied somewhere a bit more tranquil than your typical hostel in the village. Honest review:

Good Points
Very well decorated rooms, simple and rustic but entirely fitting for the setting(Comfortable proper double bed too), my room had a lovely terrace with great views of the mountains. location wise it was about a couple of minutes drive from the village centre and 10 - 15 min walk.

Bad points
Hospitaility leaves something to be desired - some have described this as more of a B&B or home, well that's a bit generous in my experience! Took me ages to find the owner and ended up waiting around for some time before he gave the key and gave no information on breakfast (where and when etc.)

Not the owners fault but the road to the accommodation is bad! This is a farm track at best and poorly sign posted. My poor hired car took a bit of beating getting up the road and was not the most pleasant walk back up the hill in pitch darkness.

given it was out of the way it was very noisy! The accommodation is surrounded by farms which meant you had the sound of machinery during the day and farm dogs barking at night (walls a bit thin too between accommodation).

Onsite facilities, you do not get much in the actual rooms which would be okay if the main public space had anything. There is a lounge/bar area which was left open and unattended (the only space you could get wifi too) but no services available. Outside there was a pool which was in need of being cleaned and dredged. The external spaces needed some TLC and repair work - table on my terrace looked like it had been hit with a sledgehammer!.

I did wonder if it was just like this due to being end of season but I have seen some other reviews with the same comments which is such a shame as this place could be fantastic! Tip for the owner, you either need to improve your facilities so visitors have access to kitchen facilities coffee etc. in the main lounge or improve the hospitality service.

Would recommend if you know what your getting as the views and rooms are great but glad I was booking on my own and not romantic getaway as I think the other half would have been sorely disappointed.

Room tip: Room 1 and 2 have the best terraces and views.

The Hotel is more like a home or a B&B - with extremely kind and helpful staff, beautiful rooms with the most wonderful terrasse and view to the Mountains. If you like tranquillity, good homemade food and a cosy atmosphere, don't miss this beautiful place

We were so looking forward to a return visit to Catifalarga after having a lovely experience there 5/6 years ago. We should have hung onto that lovely memory as it was a mistake going back!
Location truly wonderful! Views of mountains stunning. Room 2 with its' lovely large terrace complete with sun loungers and table/chairs. Very comfortable, unique, and rustic style bedroom and shower room. Could do with more pillows!
So wanted to love this place but there was so much wrong here!
*Worst potholed access road ever! *Zero hospitality!
*No staff! i.e. No staff at all on day one! Just a crumpled tel no. stuck to door. When telephoned, we were told to let ourselves into room-key in the door!
*Tea&coffee making facilities in room were 2 teabags and 2 sachets of sugar, kettle and cups. No milk no coffee.
*We had booked dinner for 8pm and no-one appeared! We reluctantly had to return to village in search of somewhere to eat, via potholes!
*Breakfast in morning was toast, cake, and coffee served by a lady who we had to go looking for! No choice offered, no juice, no water to drink and had to request a second cup of coffee be made!
*No wifi as advertised.
*Swimming pool advertised but not available as it was filthy and full of debris and leaves!
*Felt the place was shut down for the season and they were just chancing it taking bookings!

Such a shame, such a beautiful cortijo with immense potential in outstanding scenery! Could be brilliant. Perhaps in season it IS more welcoming but I would not recommend at end of season. (We stayed at end of October) Regrettably I have to rate this as poor because of zero hospitality!

We are stuck in 2 minds about reviewing Catifalarga. Only because we want everyone to know what a stunning place this is but at the same time we would like to keep it quiet because we want it all to ourselves. The owner seems to take a lot of stick for not being there to answer questions on a daily basis, but for us that just adds to the chilled out way that Catifalarga is run. And when you do get to meet him he is a really nice bloke. The lady who is there every morning (her name i forget) is very helpful and always seems to be smiling, and when you visit Catifalarga you will see why she is always smiling. We are not very well travelled peopled, but when we are at Catifalarga and La Alpujarras we dont need to travel anywhere else. When you visit please remember that its not a hotel, and it is what you make it

Room tip: They all have great views

They advertised all over the village with flamenco. The show was ok. Not the best in Andalusia but still good.

The wine was a Rioja. But unfortunately not very good and expensive.

We where surprised with 10 euro extra charge on the bill for watching the flamenco. Even though they never (and no where) had mentioned that an admission fee was required.
