The walking route through the valley is spectactular. Also good to do with children from about 10 years old. During weekends it is more busy at the entrance of the valley where locals go cliff-climbing.

Waterfalls, hanging bridges, narrow rock side pathways, caverns, hills and more....a paradise walk for young children from 5 and up.

We did the big loop starting from Monachil village, through the trail and then the climb to beautiful olive and cherry plantations and back down to the village.
A 9 km walk, that took close to 3 and half hours, counting rest for lunch...
Would do it again with my kids.

We had found this hike on the internet and it was described as one of the best hikes in sierra nevada, so we decided to give it a go - and it was a great success!

It is definitely the most interesting and varied hike I have ever been on (and I have tried several in exotic locations such as Hawaii and Costa Rica where you would think they would be interesting).
This one starts out by taking you over 3 hanging bridges with a huge waterfall beneath. Then you have to get through a gorge, balancing on a narrow cliff edge next to the white water. In some places the cliff is hanging over the water and you will have to grab the metal rings in the cliff or bumslide on the edge. Not easy, but great for adventurous souls :)
On the other side of the gorge follows a nice area for picnic and the rest of the hike takes you along fields with cherries, olives, oranges, wine etc.

Really really nice hike! There are also a couple of restaurants with outdoor seating at the beginning/end of the hike.

One thing worth noting though is that parking is limited, so get here early on weekends.
Oh and the way to get here... drive through Monachil (coming from Granada), The parking lot is after the village on your right. You won't miss it...

I can highly recommend this hike. Saw loads of families with kids, but probably would steer clear of this myself if I had a baby or toddler with me as the trip through the gorge could be challenging.

Very nice hike, you can go to treksierranevada website and get a map and description.

Very cool hanging bridges, and some crawling along cliffsides with river etc. Very pretty, but wear shoes with good traction and some clothes that can get dirty and a little wet :)

Nice spot midway for picnic. Go there early on sundays if you would like to park your car ;)
