“Best hike I have been on!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

We had found this hike on the internet and it was described as one of the best hikes in sierra nevada, so we decided to give it a go - and it was a great success!

It is definitely the most interesting and varied hike I have ever been on (and I have tried several in exotic locations such as Hawaii and Costa Rica where you would think they would be interesting).
This one starts out by taking you over 3 hanging bridges with a huge waterfall beneath. Then you have to get through a gorge, balancing on a narrow cliff edge next to the white water. In some places the cliff is hanging over the water and you will have to grab the metal rings in the cliff or bumslide on the edge. Not easy, but great for adventurous souls :)
On the other side of the gorge follows a nice area for picnic and the rest of the hike takes you along fields with cherries, olives, oranges, wine etc.

Really really nice hike! There are also a couple of restaurants with outdoor seating at the beginning/end of the hike.

One thing worth noting though is that parking is limited, so get here early on weekends.
Oh and the way to get here... drive through Monachil (coming from Granada), The parking lot is after the village on your right. You won't miss it...

I can highly recommend this hike. Saw loads of families with kids, but probably would steer clear of this myself if I had a baby or toddler with me as the trip through the gorge could be challenging.

“Excellent and cool hike in the gorge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013

Very nice hike, you can go to treksierranevada website and get a map and description.

Very cool hanging bridges, and some crawling along cliffsides with river etc. Very pretty, but wear shoes with good traction and some clothes that can get dirty and a little wet :)

Nice spot midway for picnic. Go there early on sundays if you would like to park your car ;)

“Varied route”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

Easy day trip from Granada. Cool, shady path through beautiful gurgling ravine, over hanging bridges, along stream bed. Ideal for kids 6-12 who should find it a real adventure. The only trouble at first was finding the start of the trail.

“Enjoyable afternoon walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

Los Cahorros is accessible from Monachil, just be prepared that this is not a mainstream tourist attraction with large roads and parking. The walk follows the stream with small ponds where you can swim, you have several suspension bridges that are cool, you meet climbers and a lot of friendly people. For an avid walker it will take you 2 hours to go up to where the narrow valley ends and return to your car.
