“Not worth the cost”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

The hotel is clean and updated but a kink at every turn. Yes there is a pool but it is outside and not heated. Yes there is wifi but it is only free in the lobby, not even free at the restaurant or pool. We came for the final four and the restaurant and room service wasn't operating after the game. The food is good, at least two steps above ordinary hotel food but is expensive. There is no free coffee in the lobby. The beds seemed small. I said terrible to the spa only because there wasn't one. I would only stay here again if it popped on Priceline at a lower cost.

Room Tip: Get the parking lot side if you want to sleep in because the interstate side is loud and bright in t...

15 story, basic, nothing fancy or grand about this hotel except it has an atrium. Reception desk is standard, lobby good size but noisy at times, elevators are efficient, comfortable size rooms with mini fridge & flat screen tv. Bathrooms, however, are tight & tiny - the box size kind when you swivel open the door it comes close to an inch or two away from the toilet seat. The shower is arms reach away from the countertop. There is no exhaust fans so it fogs up in there. I love the Starbucks at the lobby but its only open until 1pm. There is a (quite bit overpriced) restaurant downstairs. Linens are crisp and white. Rooms/hallways clean. Lots of free parking. No free breakfast unless you are Elite member with concierge privileges on the 14th flr. Everything else was fine.

Large comfortable rooms, large & modern lobby, small check in area. Starbucks in the lobby. Staff were nice and accommodating. No issues, pleasant stay for a couple of nights, a little outside of downtown. Large atrium style, needs some updating, but does not affect quality.

From what I could find out, this hotel was built in 1974 and renovated in 2009. I'm not sure what the renovations consisted of, but several things in our room seemed run down. The arm chair was dirty and stained. There were some minor stains on the bedding. The bathroom door had some damage that had been painted over. Nothing really horrible here, but showing some wear.
I am very particular about cleanliness in a hotel room, and I thought the Marriott did a pretty good job. The sheets and towels seemed clean. I always check the bathroom for what I call a tell-tale sign of how thorough the cleaning staff was: little hairs. There were none that I saw around the toilet, floor, shower, or sink. I saw two small hairs on the ceiling, which might not be a place one would automatically think of cleaning. Overall I was satisfied with the cleanliness.
The mattress was rather comfortable compared to many hotel mattresses, and we slept well. The room was a decent size.
My biggest complaint was the noise level. Every floor has hallways that overlook the large lobby below. We were on the eleventh floor, and we still had a lot of noise coming up from the lobby well into the night. Maybe we were just unlucky, but the room next to us was having an early morning wedding party the next day. We were woken very early by loud music, laughing, talking, and lots of coming and going. The walls seemed very thin and there was no way to ignore the noise in the room next to us.
We only encountered the desk staff when we checked in, and the employee that assisted us was personable.
I thought one thing in the lobby showed lack of attention to detail, but it is nothing major. There was a large self-serve lime-aid dispenser next to the check-in desk. We checked in shortly after 3 pm, and the dispenser had only ice in it and a tiny trickle of lime-aid at the bottom. We were particularly thirsty at the time and wished they had some of this complimentary lime-aid that should supposedly be for all. After messing around with it for a couple minutes, trying to get the tiny trace that was left inside and failing, we left it alone. It was never refilled for the rest of the day or night. It almost seemed like they were trying to trick you into thinking they would have a little treat for you, but you never got it. The next day when we checked out, the lime-aid was filled to the top, but no cups were anywhere in sight. (The previous day there were plenty of cups when there was no lime-aid available.) It almost seemed like a poor practical joke, and we laughed about it. But if they don't pay attention to something obvious like that, which the staff must be in view of all day, I wonder to what else they don't pay attention.
The location is nothing special, but it is convenient to Atlanta without staying in downtown Atlanta. There is complimentary parking here which is hard (or impossible) to find in downtown. For the rate we paid for our room, I thought it was reasonable. There is nothing fancy here, but it seems dependable enough.
There is a restaurant in the hotel. No fine food but good enough for a quick bite. The breakfast was expensive and we didn't bother with it.

After a rough start at check in the staff really did a 360 to make our overall hotel experience great. We drove up from Miami and tried to check in around 10:30pm. There was some confusion over the package that I booked using Delta Sky Miles that included a visa gift card as part of a shopping package deal. The front desk staff was unable to resolve the booking/package issue and I was advised to contact the manager in the morning. We went to the car to bring in our bags and we we got to the room we found the pack n play we requested already set up, we always have to wait for one to be brought in. Thirty minutes later there was a knock on the door and the room service attendent said the front desk wanted to send up a treat for us. The tray included cheese, crackers, a bottle of red wine, and ice cream for the kids. This was a very nice gesture and completely changed my attitude about their customer service. Thank you MJ.

We had breakfast in the restaurant both mornings of our stay and found the staff there especially friendly towards us and our children. The provided buffet included hot and cold items, something for everyone. They have a staffed omelet and waffle station. The second morning the staff recognized us and brought the children out smiley faced pancakes.

The only complaints I have are that they charge for Wi-Fi ($12.95 24 hours) and that the coffe shop closes at 3pm.

The hotel is well located and has easy access to 85. We were able to get to Grady in less than 15 minutes and Emory in less than 10 minutes. You will definitely need a car if you are staying here but I would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs to be in central Atlanta.

Good Afternoon! Thank you for your comments and feedback. I am so pleased to hear that we recovered from such a rough check-in, which I apologize about. I agree, MJ is definitely a great asset at our property! I'm so happy to hear that your family enjoyed our restaurant...our team is always looking to please our younger guests too. They have fun with new ideas that kids love! Just so you know, we're constantly working on our technology and ways to improve it for our guests. Next time your here please let us know if you'd like a coffee after the Cafe is closed, we'd be more than willing to make anything for you. We hope to see you and your family again next time.

We stayed at this Marriott Hotel in Atlanta with several couples and we are long-time friends. We meet in Atlanta annually to get together at a convention where a friend has been attending as an exhibitor for 30+ years. It was a large hotel, yet the service was very personal -- every emplyee was pleasant. I sent an e-mail to the Marriott chain regarding this wonderful service. This e-mail is listed below.

We just stayed two nights at your Atlanta Marriott Century Center with two other couples who we travel with regularly. Your staff was very friendly and accommodating throughout the stay -- thank you. On one occasion we had a special request and Jennifer Brooks and her staff were very helpful and handled our needs and were very professional -- they are to be congratulated for their fine customer service. Convenient location just off I-85 with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff! The interstate and beltway are close by but shopping requires a car. Check out the already written reviews for more details, since our visit was very short. Helpful and pleasant staff and clean surroundings! We would go back...

Room Tip: The 12 floor was lovely! Great trek for stair walkers! Avoid rooms near elevators...
