Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center
Ranked #50 of 172 Hotels in Atlanta
Reviewed October 30, 2012

We stayed at the Omni CNN Center for an SEC football weekend, specifically the Chik-fil-A Kick-Off. We had a double room with a balcony overlooking a parking lot in the old tower of the CNN center.

The room was dated and not well appointed. There were stains on the sheets and the bathroom smelled moldy, not to mention poorly laid out. The service was ok but not memorable. The only amenity we used at the facility was the lobby bar. All-in-all the property is very dated. In fact, one might say that the 1980s has lost its CNN convention center and would like it back.

The location to the Georgia Dome is a nice (and maybe the only) bonus to this place. It is just your typical, over sized, outdated 30-year old facility that needs a massive makeover. There is no value to staying at this place.

Entrance to the hotel valet parking was difficult to find with events going on. The valet parking is $30 but the service is very efficient. I had a room with a king and it was spacious. It was easier to watch CNN out my window towards the CNN broadcast center than try to watch the snowy old tube TV. The granite on the counter face was falling off in the washroom but the ammenities were adequate. Not as nice as the Westin when I stayed downtown last time.

Just spent two days at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center for a conference. The room was great overall. Furnishings on the verge of outdated but as long as everything's clean, I don't really care.

The staff were very polite and helpful. Mini bar, great bath amenities, bed was comfortable, internet fast, pretty quiet but I was on the 23rd floor. The convention center is just steps away. Valet parking is $30 per day.

The nearby chain restaurant location of Taco Mac, which has nothing to do with the Omni, sucked. See separate review but definitely avoid it.

The location can't be beat for many of Atlanta's sights. It's a great central location and the CNN Center makes one feel even more connected to the world. The staff was amazing - always available and friendly - with a smile. A 24 hour gym and spa water in the lobby made me feel like I could pamper myself as needed. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but I found that there were a few issues - the power outlets on the desk didn't work unless I plugged in the desk. The drain in the tub was broken so I couldn't take a bath. I did like that an actual person called when I requested a wake up call (versus an automated system).

Room Tip: I was in the South Tower with a view of an Anderson Cooper billboard. It was a nice bonus.

The hotel is nice, very clean and the staff is very nice and accommodating. The valet staff are simply wonderful and go beyond the call of duty in every detail. The internet is HORRIBLE!! It is a good hotel for a conference stay which is why I was there but there is not much else to do there i.e. no good restaurant or entertainment. The area is downtown so is loaded with homeless people who will wonder right up to you outside the property so I did not feel safe around the property at all. There are scant decorations, no glitz at all, relatively stark small rooms. Feather pillows and beds are fine but only double beds in the rooms, not queens. Beautiful view of the city and sunrises are gorgeous. Overall is nice but I would not stay there again unless there was a conference there because there just simply is not enough there to entertain you and nothing in safe walking distance, especially if you are traveling alone.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the downtown skyline as otherwise you will get a view of the train and the ghetto

Our room had the appearance of the 80's, with older style bedspread and furniture. Other than that it was mostly clean and had reasonably good amenities. We had to call down for service on arrival because the bedside lamp and phone were disconnected and the plugs inaccessible. They did come promptly to repair.

I liked the reasonable price of the special offer early morning coffee and pastry in the room, which is available for Omni frequent travelers.

Recently stayed at the Omni Hotel for a Women's Conference which was held at the Phillips Arena, hotel is connected to facility. This is a great location only if you're attending a conference. There's not a lot of night life or restaurants. Marta Train is about 2 block away very easy to commute from Airport & Lenox Square Shopping Center which is a must do. The hotel lobby is nicely decorated, however, we stayed in the South Tower (overlooking Bicentennial Park) the rooms needs an "extreme makeover" furniture and rug were very dated, shower was broken I was totally surprised considering the money we paid per night. I was told that the North Tower has recently been updated & has a great view of the city (something you may want to keep in mind when booking). The staff was very accomodating in assisting with any complaints. Check-in was longer than I expected, maybe because of all the conferences that was going on at the time.

Getting around while staying at the Omni can be very expensive I suggest the Marta Train system which is very accomodating, clean and safe. Taxi's to/from airport is $36 Marta was only $2.50.

Food at the Omni can be expensive, I suggest that you walk over to the CNN Tower where there's a food court with many choices and affordable prices.

Again this is the place to stay if you're attending conferences, clients or sporting event.

I'm a member of the Select Guest Program which allows free beverages of choice in the morning. This program is free so don't forget to sign-up.

I would definitely give the Omni a 3-31/2 star rating!
