“Nice folks but not so nice experience”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

We were in Atlanta for the SEC tourney and had made reservations at this hotel. Well, let's just say "hotel" really isn't the correct term for this facility. All the rooms open to the outside like a motel....the rooms are just stacked on top of each other. And the balcony floors are brick tile....it sounds like a metro station between the maids' carts and luggage being rolled over them. There is no control at all for the loud folks wandering the balconies at all hours of the night. Parking is a block away and $15 a day. Our room was a King, which had some issues too. The mirrors were dirty and stayed dirty until the last day. The sink didn't drain. The toilet had to be double flushed every single time. I dropped something near the bed and saw two chocolate chip cookies under the bed and they were still there when we left. Now for the positive...the desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Would I stay at this hotel/motel again....no.

Room Tip: Try to get at the end of a balcony...so the metro sound will be less.

SAD...you found the hotel....not to be...quiet and nice

You shared in...another one of your reviews...
referencing the Edgewater Hotel in Winter Garden Florida...

"it's a rare trip where we don't experience some noise'

Certainly with your attendance at the SEC Tournament
noise is expected...from the other visitors in downtown...

what is not/ was not expected were the conditions you found...
from the noisy cobblestone walkways to the cleanliness...
to the two cookies.

The cobblestone sound I am going to "fix" with this...
surface coating used at children's play areas...

what we screwed up on... was the cleanliness....
which is not common for us.

You wrote that you would not return.
I want you to give me a chance to "change" that.

SO...if you can trust me....and give me a little faith...
please contact me at...

Hotel was quiet and nice. The rooms were in excellent condition and clean. The only thing that was disturbing is the bathroom area is real small, but other than that, it was very clean also. The fitness room was in excellent condition for those of you who likes a good workout in the morning. The breakfast menu items were good, and they had a lot of items to choose from so you will not have a problem finding an item of your liking.

I searched the internet for the hotel stay and selected this location based on the website reviews and the updated hotel features. When I arrived the surprises started. Very sleek lobby and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I walked away with my room key and a smile on my face. The young lady who checked me in was full of energy.. The room was very clean and I was surprised again to see floating end tables, LED lighting, rain shower head in the bathroom and a well executed contemporary theme. Then breakfast was the next surprise. I was told at the check in that is was very good. But you become jaded to those statements. This actually was very good. The breakfast buffet offered scrambled eggs, like most. The surprise was they were not overcooked, the coffee was excellent and the staff was very attentive. When it came time for dinner suggestions they had that covered too.
You can book without reservation. Great value for the money!

Room Tip: Was next to the ice machine and no noise inside the room!

TY BURRELL...is who came to my mind as I read your review and reviews.

I read all of the other reviews of our reviewers... to "discover"...
if they can be trusted.

Well "surprise"...in reading your reviews...I found them to be full of joy...
what I perceived as a truly happy person who loves...
using the words...discover and surprise a lot.

SO it reminded me...of Ty Burrell on ABC's Modern Family...
and then...
SURPRISE...I discover that...YOU are a real estate agent too.

And not only an agent...but an top performing agent in Long Island.
Which by the way... I love Long Island...having opened...
in 1987 the now called Hilton Hotel in Huntington just west of you.

Anyway...
you have travelled... 134,626 miles... visited 5 % of the world...
and in each of your reviews...you offer "good stuff".

I in particular...was "surprised" to read about...
your visit to the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley...
and that they have a real experience on a live Air Force One.
SO...yes...my wife Virginia and I...will...go there...later this year.

IN CLOSING...
you mentioned that at the Dock's Oyster House - Atlantic City..
you shared..."the banana pie is worth the trip alone,
don't confuse this with banana cream"

WHAT the heck does that mean...I ...AM confused.

I was cautious of staying in the city, I usually stay outside of city downtown to avoid traffic. But access in and out was great and hotel was very clean, courteous and professional. I would recommend this hotel to all that visit Altlanta. Only drawback is walking from parking garage to hotel...if it is raining you'll get wet....

Downtown....most downtowns can be very intimidating....for many reasons.

My wife Virginia and I usually stay..."outside" the BIG cities too.
Primarily... we because we are "baby boomers"... and always "afraid".
well perhaps....being honest...
it is ME alone... who is usually afraid... Virginia... lives life happily.

Anyway...

As you know...it's usually the perception... that is the big problem.

And yes...while there are cities...we would both never stay in...
Atlanta.....
except for the crappy downtown interstate traffic during rush hours...
is surprisingly a good/easy city to drive into. Great exits.

Most every one of the... 19 TRUELY... downtown hotels...
(as opposed to midtown and Buckhead)

are all EASY to get to...
and once you are there...
and YES... pay a parking fee in the range of $ 15 to 32 dollars per day...
and YES... we ALL have to charge... none of us own our own lots...

THEN...then you really don't need to take your car out.
You can walk around the downtown area... to all of the attractions...
and restaurants...and...meeting venues if on business...
and all of us have pretty much direct access to Olympic Centennial Park.

AND YES...Downtown Atlanta...has been reported to be...
among the safest cities in the US...(since LBJ was President)
just go on line... and link onto ...Atlanta or Fulton County...
and you can find/see the Commission report.

Glad you...stayed with us...sorry you got wet...
using the parking lot next door as opposed to being below our hotel.

Hope you come back to us...when next in Atlanta...and if not...
then I know...you will love the other downtown hotels too.

They are all great.

PS...
the hotels in Midtown and Buckhead...
except for five...are great too....

They are only 15 to 10 minutes from downtown...
and EASY to get downtown... using the "really great...MARTA system.

Plus u could walk to anything in the city from there and good price to stay there! They made u feel at home very friendly

Room Tip: The building was older but it was contemporary so it made up for it!

Delighted to read your comments... DELIGHTED... what a great word.

I have been wanting to use that word...ever since I saw it in a response...
from...a Manager... at another hotel to one of their guests

Sounds "kinda" British...and since...I was born in the UK...
I think it would be good.... to use it today...

Delighted you had a good time in Atlanta !

My wife and I needed a place to stay in walking distance to the aquarium, world of coke, and downtown. And this hotel fit the bill. Good price considering other choices, parking on the premises, and we could walk to most places. However, the rooms are on the smaller side (European style), no bath, and all the rooms open to the outside which some folks may not care for; we didn't care so it was fine. The bed was very comfortable, clean room, and quiet heating unit which was all we needed. The buffet breakfast was part of the deal and was kind of what you'd expect but with hot scrambled eggs, sausage, grits, and potatoes. A notch up from some "free" breakfasts.

At first I did not know how... to respond to your comments.

On our internal brand electronic survey you shared...
as IT RELATED to ...the question...intent to recommend..

"If they want a European hotel experience at a good price...
then I'd recommend it"

"If they want more of an American city hotel experience....
then I wouldn't".

It is true/correct that our guest rooms and bathrooms are small.

It is something we live with...with our building being built in 1958.
I presume...
developers in the time period of the early 20's...through the early 1980's....
wanted to max out on rentable units.

It is something we share with 11 of the 19 big brand downtown hotels.
And...none of the General Managers are happy.

But....we ALL have among the best/cleanest... small rooms out there..
and ..even better...we have really good employees.

I am happy / relieved that you did favor us with... "perfectly fine hotel'...
and so thank you.

NOW...
As you may know ... I review...ALL of the reviews of our reviewers...
and...
ON THAT POINT...
I really loved your review of the...Archer Mountain Inn in Banner Elk, NC.
"Cozy Mountain Getaway"...with our room having vaulted ceilings...
and...not only a fireplace but the in their restaurant...
an Incredible breakfast...and the best French toast ever.

My wife Virginia and I ... travel a lot...and we stay....at places "like" this..
so...we will plan a trip there...just because of you.

Anyway...safe / happy and LARGE room travels to you and your wife!

I think the parking should have been better. I would have loved a shuttle from garage to the front of hotel for the price, had a lot of lugage and did not know ahead of time where the parking would be, but other than that everything was great.

Parking IS a problem for all hotels in downtown and a nightmare for some.

The average parking fee...that HAS to be charged by hotels downtown...
because we do not own our own lots...
ranges from what we charger $ 15 dollars...
to $ 32 dollars per day...for Valet parking at the major hotels.

We do have... 32 spots...below our hotel...which makes it great..
and an additional 40 spots on the block next "door" to us.
and yes... if you "have to park" there it is a pain.

I wish we had...SHOULD have...advise you to unload...
at our main entrance... and yes... we would have helped load...
before...you drove to the lot next door.

Sorry we did not assist.
