Courtyard Atlanta Midtown/Georgia Tech

Nice to have free parking so close to the city. Shuttle service to Ga Tech was excellent. A bit of a walk to the "other side" of the freeway and the metro stops. Rooms a bit small but clean. Walls are thin. We got stuck with a bunch of 5th graders on a field trip and they were noise well past midnight. A call downstairs got security up to calm them down.

One of the first things we noticed was streaks of poop (presumably human) all over the toilet seat, which we had to wipe off. Then we noticed the beer bottle cap on the floor, and then the stained sheets. Very disappointing - we could live with the construction going on on the 14th Street Bridge, the slightly older building, a few nonfunctional electrical outlets - but poop on the toilet seat was unacceptable. The Courtyard by Marriot in Buckhead is much nicer - we just came from that hotel and miss it.

The bridge construction is definitely an issue. But this hotel was close to everything we planned to visit, and the shuttle service was excellent. We rarely had to wait, and the shuttle cheerfully took us to museums, shopping and restaurants. Not only did we not have to navigate the construction zone, we saved on parking fees! The staff was friendly and efficient. Rooms were quiet during our stay. The hotel had the feeling of a friendly, intimate hotel instead of the usual big city impersonal mega space.

Same decor as every Courtyard Marriot. You still have to pay for your breakfast and you still probably pay $10-15 dollars more per night than it is worth, but it is clean, comfortable, quiet, and it a pretty convenient area if you are visiting Georgia Tech. It's also close to Ikea, Target, and some other shopping. Be warned, the city is doing some serious construction and accessing downtown Atlanta or I-75 is near impossible. Stay somewhere else if you aren't visiting GA Tech.

This is a typical Marriott courtyard property. neat, tidy, clean, well maintained. It's an easy walk to the ga. tech campus. It's been my preferred place to stay when visiting tech. The one caveat is that the 14th street bridge across the interstate is under construction, which makes the formerly easy on-off-access from I-75 and walking proximity to the MARTA subway stop a bit of a problem - no fault of the property - just a caveat.

This hotel was almost impossible to get to because of the 14th St. bridge being out. You need to go up State St. to 14th. The hotel was a bit run down. For example, the shower head was loose. The air conditioning did not have a thermostat. It was either on or off. It was hard to control the temperature. I had a King bed which was very comfortable, but there weren't any extra blankets that were easily available.

The entire hotel was very clean and non-smoking. Yeah! Our room seemed to be newly refurbished. It didn’t even have any funky smells. The staff was notably friendly and helpful. The front desk workers greeted us almost every time we left or returned. The one time I missed the housekeeper, my fault, I was provided towels immediately upon request, and the employee even took out our trash. There were the usual amenities: iron, ironing board, and hairdryer. I really liked the single serve coffee maker. However, there was no microwave or fridge. There seemed to be room for one in the bathroom/kitchen area. Perhaps it had been removed to encourage use of the hotel restaurant/lounge. Breakfast was not free, but there was a very nice buffet. They offered eggs cooked to order.
The fitness area was clean with a variety of equipment. There is an outdoor pool, but it was too cold to use in February, and a hot tub. We used the hot tub once, the chlorine was so strong that it burned by eyes and bleached out my new swimsuit.
The location has good and bad points. It is close to Atlantic Station shopping area, which has lots of shops, restaurants, a movie theater, Publix and a Target. The hotel offers a great complimentary shuttle service to and from anywhere in a two-mile radius. It is also close to Georgia Tech. The immediate area is mostly residential with nice looking townhouses and duplexes. The biggest drawback was the road construction, which is never ending in Atlanta. 14th street is completely demolished over interstate 85. This is supposed to be completed in June 09.
Be sure to eat at Vicory’s. It is a bit difficult to find, but definitely worth the effort. Copeland’s in Atlantic Station has unbelievable cheesecake.
