Stayed at the InterContinental for three nights in February to visit the attractions (Aquarium and Coca-Cola) for our two youngsters (6 and 8 yrs). Got a great price through Hotwire, otherwise it was outside of our price range. Took Marta to Buckhead station and walked 3 blocks to hotel - safe, sidewalks clear, easy walk, even w/ luggage and two children - a bit cranky after a 2 hr flight.
Lobby was excellent - nice sofas, chairs, small tables for people to have drinks, coffee. Off the lobby was check-in counter - and staff were very helpful and quick - even w/ a guest staying at half-price.
Pool and jacuzzi were nice - open even in 70 degree weather and the kids loved it. Very peaceful setting w/ buildings blocking street noise. Wife and I read while kids swam.
Room - standard 2 double-beds was nicely appointed. A bit cramped, but nice. Safe for valuables and laptop. Standard set-up - stocked minibar all the usual expensive prices. Soaking tub and separate tiled shower was nice. Coffee bar on a table in the bathroom. Standard television set-up. Beds were extremely comfortable w/ a pillowtop cover. Free Atlanta paper located on the credenza near the elevator. Ice machine on every floor. Hallways very clean and well lit. Four (4) elevator banks - which was great. Some hotels have very slow and few elevators.
No free wifi. "Boarding Pass Station" had two computer stations w/ printers to print boarding passes - free. When I went to print tickets for Coca-Cola, the charge was $5.95 for 15 minutes and $1.95 for the print job. I had my own computer w/ wifi, but no way to print.
No coffee shop on the premises. A small gift shop sold snacks, personal items, magazines, etc.
Major criticism was the lack of restaurants nearby - closet was the hotel restaurant - a nice French restaurant that had a great menu, but nothing for a 6 and 8 yr old. We did have dessert and breakfast there one evening and morning and the kids enjoyed it. Beyond that - Ruth Chris across the street. A Chick-Fil-A down the street, a couple of other local restaurants - Buckhead Pizza across the main avenue. Caribou Coffee shop about 3 blocks away. The Lenox Mall and other restaurants were about 6 blocks away in the opposite direction. Don't walk - while the area around the hotel was peaceful, as we got closer to the mall, traffic was thicker and people anxious to get into the mall. Wife said not to walk again through this area. After dinner we called the hotel and someone came to pick us up - huge cadillac escalade - son loved it. I understand they drop off guests on a five mile radius, but you have to wait - first come first served. Mall was a typical suburban mall jammed w/ people. Rather pretentious and lots of parking cordoned off for valet parking.
All in all. InterContinental Buckhead was a great hotel stay - met our needs well. Peaceful, well appointed and staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay again, but be aware of restaurant choices and plan better to dine on the way back from attractions or have the hotel limo take us to nearby restaurants.
