“A classic! Always wonderful and a treat”
Reviewed June 11, 2014 via mobile

When I visit friends or family in other cities, there's nothing I hate more than eating at a chain restaurant. What makes your city unique? What restaurants are your local favorites?
The Swan Coach House is a unique, Atlanta treasure that I frequently take out-of-towners when they visit. The floral, plush surroundings, fresh flowers on each table, dishes with the distinctive swan logo, and white table clothes are always a wonderful treat. The Swan Coach House is adjacent to the Atlanta History Center and the Swan House mansion.
The Swan Coach House is open for lunch Monday through Saturday. Mostly frequented by the ladies who lunch; but also seen there are tourists visiting the Atlanta History Center, bridal showers, and Buckhead matrons.
For a first timer, don't skip the free, delicious muffins your server brings to your table. Today my friend and I each had the grilled chicken salad. I would advise a first time patron to try the Swan's favorite which consists of two timbales with chicken salad, cheese straws on the side, homemade mayo, and their famous frozen jello salad. Don't miss the unique, round, delicious frozen jello filled with fruit!
Great place!

“Ladies who lunch!”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

It is truly a throw back to the genteel luncheons. My husband and our friend Stephan went there for lunch and they were the only two men in the entire restaurant. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was like stepping back to the 60's but in a good way. Wait staff was attentive and a little formal, but if you are visiting the Swan House and the History Museum it is a lovely little place for a very delicious lunch! They also have a very nice gift shop!

“The place to go!”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

I'd always heard about their Southern Ladies lunch - chicken salad, frozen fruit salad, and cheese straws. It was wonderful! I can see why this has been "the place" for years for the women of Atlanta and their daughters. What a great Atlanta tradition.

loved it. Everything was old. Dare i say even the wait staff. How much history do they and the restaurant have? Loved all the colors and brightness of the place. Does feel a bit girly but it certainly makes you happy and smile while you are here. We were lucky to get in. Make a reservation so you dont miss out. Well worth seeing. We only had time for soup and sandwhich as we were booked on the house tour. But our short visit was nice. Would have loved to have had more time and stay for a cup of tea.

“Historic, But the Rose is Fading”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

I attended a shower for a bride at the Swan Coach House. So much of what the other reviewers describe is true. It's a southern institution for ladies in Atlanta and generations of brides, Junior Leaguers, and fashionable ladies have lunched here for decades. Some of the food is the same as visits I've made in the past, but it also appeared that they are cutting some corners. For example, the quiche looked and tasted very commercial.

Additionally, be warned that you are on a strict time clock for reservation arrival and departure and the restaurant turns the table or private room to the next guests on a rigid schedule. When the restaurant decided that it was our time to leave, they started clearing tables and becoming generally intrusive on the party even though we had one or two gifts and "thank yous" left to deliver. They brought a rolling cart into our room, piled the gifts on the cart, and it was clear that we were expected to vacate. I wonder if Atlanta's socialites in years gone by were also rushed out the door or if this is a newer practice!

By all means, don't miss an event here. Just don't expect the genteel experience of days gone by!
