The Optimist is a little farther away from the center of Atlanta, but it is well worth going to. This is the place for fresh and delicious seafood, and we ate some very excellent food (namely swordfish with ham steak... so good!) The atmosphere was very cool, but we found the staff to be a little uptight or perhaps overly busy. We didn't have any problems though.

perfection in every way.

service: bustling restaurant, crowded and all but our server james was wonderful... attentive, wonderful recommendations, on top of it all.
f
ood: perfection. seriously we were a large group and therefore were able to taste a bit of everything... the she-crab soup was spectacular, the spicy grilled octopus was spectacular, the oysters were good, the wedge salad as good as it gets but unless you are craving leafs get seafood... and for the entrees... every bite perfection! the fish and chips were the best we've ever tasted. no joke. the seared tuna cooked just right. and the desserts! omg you can't go wrong!!! i'm not a merenge fan but at the optimist i am, and the apple strudel - wholly molly. don't forget the banana pudding... ha seriously you can't go wrong with anything on the menu here.

oh yeah and even the design of the restaurant is perfection.
pricey but worth it

Went for lunch today with my 101 year old Mother and 13 year old granddaughter and we had THE best time. Great food. Wonderful reception and service. We ordered the Shrimp au plan to share -- messy but divine -- and the teen enjoyed it so much she wanted to know if we could have a serving daily OR whether they catered so we could order it regularly. She enjoyed her gumbo -- so full of crab claws and shrimp. My Mother and I shared the lobster cobb salad and the lobster roll -- both full of lobster and delicious. We even ordered dessert: Savannah Beignets -- not the wonderful puffy clouds we are used to from New Orleans but rather a flaky sweet biscuit or sweet roll style with praline sauce and nuts. We LOVED it. The fries were our favorite shoestring style -- hot and crisp with sauce on the side. We did not order oysters or beer or any other dishes that are the 'test' or 'measure' for some diners but we enjoyed our lunch and intend to visit often.

I went with two other people. Loved that we could play 'putt putt' before dinner. Got to the restaurant 30 minutes early but was able to get seated before our reservation time. We ordered the gumbo and clam/pork belly apps. The gumbo was 'meh' but the clam app was fabulous! I ordered a rye Manhattan based on other reviewers and it was very good. For the main course, we ordered the Yellow fin tuna and Fish & chips(tried to persuade them not too - too boring). The tuna was delicious and the fish & chips was only ordinary. Service was very prompt and pleasant. Ordered the Savannah beignets - they were scrumptious. Definitely want to go back and try them out for lunch. Very enjoyable and not too outrageous price wise.

Heard good things--not quite sure about all the raves. Ordered oysters- good but arrived in midst of main course. Frites had overdose of salt. Beer served in cozys--quaint but out of place. Might go back for lunch-- understand lobster rolls are exceptional.
