The photos on the website ( big front columns, etc) led us to believe that the Swan House was going to be a quintessential Southern mansion. Our mistake! We should have read the description more carefully. This house was built in 1928 and is decorated in a Federal style and while somewhat interesting, is definitely the house of a upper middle class businessman not some millionaire Atlanta society family. If yiunhave seen other historical houses, you might want to skip this one. We were disappointed in the tour too. The house might have been more interesting if the tour guide had done more talking about the lifestyle that went on in the house. For example, the kitchen had lots of cooking tools from the 30's in it, but the guide did little to bring them to life. Fortunately, none of the people on the tour started asking lots of questions which livened things up and engaged the group more. That said, the gardens and grounds around the house are well worth exploring. The Quarry Garden is a real gem!
