Holiday Inn Atlanta - Northlake
Ranked #139 of 172 Hotels in Atlanta

We had stayed here before, during renovations last December, and thought the beds were wonderful! So we booked again last April and found the same great service, same great beds and a very varied and nutritious breakfast. The staff are very polite and helpful. We come to the area quite often and usually stay nearby, but now we will call this Holiday Inn our "home away from home".

I was very suprised to see what a GREAT job the owner of this hotel has done in regard to the renovation. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were very clean, and the 42 inch flat screen TV in the room was awesome! We had breakfast the next morning and it was a delightful suprise! We will definitely stay at this hotel again in the future!

Nice hotel, I enjoyed my stay there. I really loved the HUGE flat screen TV and the furniture in the rooms. The breakfast was ok, nothing too fancy. I really liked the breakfast and the bar area. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I booked this hotel through hotelplanner basing it upon their completing renovations only to find they were not. Kennlyn, the sales representative and I spoke concerning this and near the reunions’ start, she indicates a delay.

Our difficulty arose when I chose email as our communication tool, which was more concise leading to little confusion due to having everything in writing. She did not respond via email and continued to call. When we did speak by phone, she would forget most of what we spoke, calling the picnic a banquet and not remembering the meal contents, repeatedly. That’s when I determined, email was best. She finally began responding consistently via email a few days before the event.

After signing the contract, I was informed by Kennlyn, we could reserve our rooms via the 800 number, using our code, but later I found that was incorrect. In making my reservation on line, through hotelplanner, Holiday Inn did not receive it. Instead of contacting hotelplanner to resolve the situation before I arrived, Kennlyn requested that I do so. So upon, my arrival, I did not have a room. Fortunately, for me my nephew had made a reservation, but canceled, therefore I was given his room, but not at my price. I asked that they reduce it and with some hesitancy Derwin did. However, I reserved a nonsmoking room, but upon entering it, I was hit with the pungent smell of cigarette smoke which permeated the room. Upon speaking with Derwin again he said they had to convert some nonsmoking rooms into smoking ones during the renovation. I asked that they find me another room and he said they were full. I indicated I could go next door to the Quality Inn. He then proceeded to tell me they could offer better service than Quality Inn. I asked him "how do you know that?" So he said they would spray some odor remover and reduce my nightly rate to $59. The odor was eliminated for one night then returned the next day and remained until I checked out.

Another family member had to endure the heat because their air conditioning did not work. But thinking it would improve they stayed and mentioned it the day before we left, receiving the $59 rate for one day only.

Generally, this would not have been a bad stay, except for the communication issues with the sales rep, the security risk of balcony doors left open (scaffolding led to them and were easily accessible by anyone from the outside), the smell of cigarette smoke in my room and the lack of a working air conditioner in another. I can understand construction occurring and some inconvenience, but if so, a business never allows their customers to suffer at their expense. At the very least, upon checking in an immediate reduction in price would have been more prudent, indicating to us that you were willing to alleviate some of the inconvenience. Their inconsistencies were evident in the fact that my sister’s room was fine, but she made a flight/room combination reservation through another company. However, this does not excuse their misleading me to think their newly decorated rooms would be available. That is bad business and dishonest.

I would advise anyone who chooses to reserve rooms to wait for the renovations to occur or ask for a reduction upon check in.

This property has all kinds of potential but just doesn't cut it on some points. Maintenance and cleanliness are issues [bathroom floor was sticky] as well as noise (but that was probably just the clientele on our floor!). Too bad more people don't eat in the restaurant because the food is quite good and very reasonable. The breakfast buffet is extraordinary and included in the rate. As priority club members we received a free appetizer which was a huge platter of mozarella sticks, buffalo wings and cheesy fries (cholesterol disaster!) Staff tries hard. Lounge area very attractive.....small bar with library atmosphere lounge. Fitness room fine but AC not working.....which in 90 degree weather cut that workout short! Good shaded parking. Sliding door window in our room needs replacing....the seal is gone and it was virtually impossible to see outside. We would not stay here again but believe with some TLC and $$ the place could be a three star property.

Nice older Holiday Inn, very polite check in staff, Sylvia was very pleasant. BUT... paid the extra $9.00 for the breakfast buffet. What a mistake.
First day, NO milk, no cereal, only the token platter of powdered scambled eggs made up hours before, and the burnt bacon, yech, and those cold potato cubes, that they pass off as hash browns.
Wait staff, was acting as if they wanted to be anywhere but here. Asked for milk, response " dont have any today" Do you think they could have gone across the street to the 7/11 and bought a quart ???
Second day, milk and ceral, no bagels, same platter of eggs and more burnt bacon.
NO pepper, asked for a pepper shaker, same spaced out expresion from the waitstaff.
Third day, still no Bagels same as " well you get the idea!!
I felt insulted by the lack of courtesous staff and the idea that Holiday Inn could lapel this as a BUFFET!! Could have gone to the local convience store and gotten a better deal with the $9.00 breakfast charge.
