Owner description: The home of the Atlanta Shakespeare Company, the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse on Peachtree Street has an enchanting history and a prime location in downtown Atlanta. We are a professional theatre with food and drinks available before each performance (and don't forget the apple crisp at intermission!)

We saw a production of the Canterbury Tales at the Shakespeare Tavern. The venue was not what I'd expected (I expected it to be more like the Globe), but it was comfortable, quaint, and cozy. There wasn't a bad seat in the house, and the food and drinks were reasonably priced. (We weren't very hungry, so we got only the bread basket, but every roll in it was absolutely delicious, and it was a whole lot of bread!)

The show was an interesting adaptation of the Tales. I thought it was done really well, especially since the Canterbury Tales wasn't written for the stage.

My only regret is that I don't live closer and can't go more often.

Another great gem in Atlanta. I have been to several plays and they have not dissappointed. The food is on par, not excellent, have to get the apple cobbler during intermission. Not a bad seat in the house and the performers are gifted!

This theatre company specializes in bringing back the works of Shakespeare's plays in an intimate environment. Definitely worth checking out. I wouldn't suggest the food there as nothing really attracted my interest other than the beer they serve. However, you can still get a table without ordering. The actors were great and really brought to life (the non-Shakespeare) the Canterbury Tales. Two acts, one intermission, a memorable night. It's an Altanta "must" and wish something like this existed in my home town.

Attended a performance of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales that was very well done. Simply delightful. The cast brought a mix of classic language and story up to date with contemporary language and imagery in this Elizabethan-style playhouse. It would have been just campy, were it done by a lesser-skilled company and crew, but these actors made it witty, with perfect timing. Excellent projection by all actors.
Don't think there are any "bad" seats in the playhouse.
Having been a long time since reading the stories, the synopsis in the playbill was spot on, offering what anyone would need to know before seeing the show. The innovative employment of "puppets" really added to the show, making the stories flow even more smoothly, with added humor. The artistic director, Jeff Watkins, the stage manager, Christa Wood, and the entire company pulled together excellent performances of several of Chaucer's classics.
Dinner before the show ("Pub Menu") that was pretty good - we had vegetarian curry, salad and salmon entrees. One of our party had a cider ale that they really enjoyed. Meals start 75 minutes prior to the start of performances.
Parking is convenient across the street at the Crawford-Long Hospital garage (park in patient slots), and was just $4 when gave them one of our tickets.
They will have performances of The Canterbury Tales till May 27, 2012.
Having seen how well they presented this evening we are going to add this company's performances of Shakespeare's works, starting with "As You Like It", May 31st till July 1st, and "Twelfth Night" to our summer cultural activities "Must See" list.
Am thankful to have the Shakespeare Tavern, their performers, staff and their many volunteers here in Atlanta.

Any regrets: Only that could not thank but one of the actors after the show let out.
