“How to do business in Atlanta”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014

I have stayed at the Emory Conference Center many times. In each and every case the staff, management, and facilities were first rate and quite helpful in allowing me to concentrate on my business agenda without distractions. Whether attending a conference or calling on/entertaining clients all things were superb. The staff was cordial, helpful, and supportive. I stay at the Emory Conference Center because I feel comfortable there. It is a great atmosphere in which to immerse yourself. I always hate to leave.

Room Tip: Any room with a view of the grounds is great.

Our sole purpose for visiting Atlanta was to visit Emory. The shuttle made this so easy. The concierge is just wonderful at the Conference Center and greeted us upon arrival and every time we passed. He runs a very smooth ship. The hotel is enormous, but we didn't feel crowded. It was like a country hotel in many ways. Pool and workout facilities were very nice. Lots of activities for teens. We had ala carte breakfast which got us out early in the morning and kept prices reasonable. We dined in the Bar one night and it was very good and reasonable. The waitress asked if the girls wanted to take their desserts to their rooms. They couldn't have been more excited. The desserts were only $4 and they made this an evening ritual regardless of where we had dined each day. The hot cobbler was definitely the favorite. Parking is $10 a day with multiple entry and we only took the car out to go to restaurants or downtown. Atlanta traffic is tough and at our morning information session families complained about being late because they were stuck in traffic. We were early and had the opportunity to talk to Admissions before the crowds. This is where I will always stay.

Room Tip: Think about parking. Our room was in Siberia and this place is easy to get lost. try to get a room...

Good points are the attractive grounds, location convenience to the CDC and all things Emory, the unique and spacious flagstone lobby and the service (with one exception described below). The Club Room serves good food from a traditional menu, reasonably priced.

The weak points are the generally tired feel of the rooms and bedroom corridors. Carpeting, bedspreads and drapes all terribly old-fashioned and in need of refreshment. Bathrooms are nondescript. So is the breakfast in the lower level dining room.

When you arrive, you will enter through beat-up front doors that pretend to open automatically but actually don't. The first impression is not too good.

When I checked in, an imperious non-welcoming front desk clerk could not find my reservation and flattered my intelligence by asking: "Are you sure you reserved for today?" Eventually he handed off...with no apology...to a lady colleague who found my reservation record within seconds. Thanks Brad.

Dear spencerusa,
Thank you for choosing us during your recent trip to Atlanta. We are honored and thankful that you chose us as your place to stay while in town. We would also like to thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We noticed that you are a true road warrior based on the number of reviews you have provided, so we really appreciate you taking the time to tell us about our highlights and areas of opportunity. We must apologize that we did not succeed in all areas of your stay and glad that you shared these items with us. We are excited to say that later this year we will be renovating the North Wing of our hotel's guestrooms. This should help out with the tired feeling that you spoke about and provide some more modern amenities in our guestrooms. We have also shared your comments about the service you received at our front desk to our Front Office Manager and will be following up with some additional training for this staff in the area of "Exceeding Customer Service Expectations". Thank you again and we hope that we will see you again soon!

First, the staff at this hotel are trained in the fine art of customer service. Every staff member I spoke with in the 2 days my wife and I stayed here were kind and sensitive to our needs. The hotel is beautiful and polished the accommodations were very posh. The shower in our room, well we could of had a mini party in there. Excellent bedding and decor.

Our nephew and his bride to be selected the Emory CC Hotel for their wedding weekend and it was a confirmation of their abilities to make good decisions. Two large families came together for three days and enjoyed the rehearsal dinner , reception and lots of getting acquainted time in the Club Bar on the property. My sister and her new mother in law arranged bus transportation to the wedding which was held near Vinings, GA , about a 30 minute trip, but other than that we were on property all during the weekend. The hotel is a bit tired but the facility is top class and very conveniently located for the guests who want to get out and do some site seeing and shopping in Atlanta. The only criticism that we had was of the restaurant which has restricted hours and , not surprisingly, operates like a convention oriented eatery. However there is a nice area across the street from the CDC and an easy two block walk that has every type of cuisine you could want, ( we really like the General Muir deli and Which, Wich), and the room service at the hotel is great. The staff is very friendly and hospitable and the concierge can get you anywhere you need to go, even in traffic challenged Atlanta!

Room Tip: If you get a room on the first floor everything is very close and , if you ask, a view of the courty...

We stayed at Emory this week for a combined business/pleasure getaway. It was our first stay at the hotel.

Pros:
The staff was very friendly--everyone from the front desk clerks to the concierge to the maids and bartenders.
Beds were comfortable and had thick, warm comforters
Rooms were a good size and had flat screen TV's and free wifi
Lots of shops and dining choices within walking distance
Great value for the money--especially if you qualify for a government rate

Cons:
The bathroom is extremely small. So small that the door barely clears the toilet when open.
The toilet paper was so thin it reminded me of crepe paper and the shampoo/conditioner didn't do a good job of shampooing or conditioning. I'd recommend bringing your own.
The pre-cooked food choices at the breakfast buffet were cold and greasy.

This hotel is located across the street from the main CDC campus. The rooms are fine and a decent size. However, the soaps and shampoos provided were cloyingly sweet smelling and I had to get rid of them. The hotel is somewhat sprawling. Breakfast was okay.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room (apparently they are nicer than the standard rooms).
