Owner description: This stunning, porcelain-enameled building was designed by famed architect Richard Meier and is rivaled only by the art inside. Featuring American, European and African art, as well as decorative art and photography, the High Museum boasts a permanent collection of over 11,000 pieces, many of which can be viewed from different levels of the four-story, glass atrium.

“Been to other museums? Don't bother with the High!”

The building is nice. That's all I can say that is positive. For $18 I got to see a few drawings
by Leonardo Da Vinci. It was the headline show and the reason I went. The pieces were so far apart I guess they hoped you would think there was more to it. Most of the pieces were by mentors and protege's of Da Vinci's. Not what I went to see. If the museum is going to bill a showing then there should at least be some notable pieces by that artist. This is the third and last time I'll visit the High. Way, way too expensive and the collections are so minimal as to be not worth the time. But, like I said, the building is nice.

“Architectual Gem, Collection Less So”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2009

Wonderful venue for display of art. We went for a special exhibition: DaVinci, Hand of the Genius. Very worth our time. But as for its overall collection, the High doesn't measure up to the art museums we have visited in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Madrid, London, Paris, and Rome. But, as our trolley tour guide said, "the High is by far the best art museum in Atlanta."

“Art Museum with very friendly staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2009

Am a professional designer who has visited many art museums in many major metropolitan areas including Paris, London and Rome. The Atlanta High Museum has an extremely friendly staff. I did find it to be an excellent layout. The best pieces in the museum would be the furniture and the best paintings were in the contemporary areas.

“Monet Water Lilies exhibit is dismal”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2009

Today my family attended the member's preview of the Monet's Water Lilies exhibit at the High Museum. It was appallingly poor. There were only four paintings, and only two large scale compositions. It took us about three minutes to view the entire exhibit. There were also no Monet related activities for children.

There is a huge advertisement for Vermeer's Astronomer in front of the museum, as part of the Louvre III exhibit. When we went to see the painting we were told it was only on a very short term loan and was returned to the Louvre months ago.

We did have a good (but pricey) lunch at the museum's restaurant Tables.
