Owner description: Step back in time in Atlanta's most tangible link to the past, Oakland Cemetery. This historical park is the final resting place for many Civil War soldiers, golfing legend Bobby Jones, and "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell.

My family and I took the Ghost Tour of the Oakland Cemetery offered during the week of Halloween.

The cemetery is definitely a sight to see. It has some amazing tombstones and headstones and a lot of famous residents located inside.

The tour itself seemed to move very slowly as we waited in the long lines. They assign you a time slot, but you don't actually get started until 45-60 minutes later.

Once we finally made it to the front of the line, we were assigned a "resident" guide, who told us of her sad story and how she wound up here. She next took us all around to meet the others. Each had their own history of events to share with us. There are seven residents in all that you visit. The tour lasts for about an hour. It was very interesting. Even my kids loved it!

Whether you are on a tour or not, this is a place not to be missed!

This weekend, I enjoyed a late afternoon walk through Atlanta's famous Oakland Cemetery. Originally, it was "Atlanta's Cemetery". Many soldiers from the Civil War are buried here, along with many of Atlanta's notable alumnae..........Margaret Mitchell, Bobby Jones, Maynard Jackson. It's 43 acres are paved, very walkable, and beautiful. From it's highest point, you can see the dome of GA's capitol and the Atlanta skyline. There are several places for good photographs, so remember your camera when you go. Nearby is the ML King Center and grave, the Atlanta Zoo, and also Atlanta's Cyclorama. There are many good reasons to spend a couple of hours at the Oakland Cemetery. These are just a few. At the gift shop, you can obtain a map of the cemetery to locate specific graves.

With a terrific viewpoint of downtown Atlanta, this is one of Atlanta's not-so-hidden treasures. This venue offers a visitors center with tours, volunteer workdays, and special events. I frequently go to Oakland, in different seasons, to capture digital images. Always a treat and one of my favorite places in this city!

Some of Atlanta's most illustrious citizens are buried here. It's a great place to wander around on your own or to take a guided tour. They have numerous events there throughout the year. Like them on Facebook and hear about them all!

Participated in Run Like Hell 5K run, the race began and ended in this lovely place. It is such a serene place, even with over a 1000 runners preparing for a great event.
