Owner description: Step back in time in Atlanta's most tangible link to the past, Oakland Cemetery. This historical park is the final resting place for many Civil War soldiers, golfing legend Bobby Jones, and "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell.

The people in the office are fantastic. They are willing to help and are very friendly. Ask them about some of the other cemeteries in the Atlanta area.

Went to one of the first twilight tours for the year. Our guide was helpful and knowledge and was completely honest in telling us that she's studied the epitaphs on half the graves in the cemetery but working on finishing soon. I would recommend that you check these tours out, the volunteers here really love the place and it really shines in how they talk about their work. What a pleasant end to a busy day!

Get a guided tour - you will learn so much. Who knew a cemetery could be so interesting? Spend the money on this one if you like history.

Oakland is well maintained and the visitor center can give you a map marking the resting place of famous Atlantans,,..Bobby Jones, Margaret Mitchell. Nice photo ops and if that's not your thing there are two good restaurants across the street where you can wait for the history buffs and photo hounds. Order skillets at Tin Lizzy's or seafood and sandwiches and Six Feet Under.

This is a great historic stop. Much of Atlanta's past contributors end up here. The grounds are lovely and it is the highest natural point in the downtown area. There are several restaurants just across the street and it is convenient to MARTA, the public transport system. Prepare to spend up to 2 hours walking this Victorian Cemetery. Even if you just do a quick drive through it is worth it! Entry is free. Also, the entry gate is on a side road just off Memorial drive.
